Stewardship
pledges for the upcoming year were received at our worship service on September 20. If you missed out on submitting
a pledge, it's not too late. Simply include your pledge form with your offering.
Our
little church has been quite active its mission efforts. Following are recent
highlights:
·
An amazing $1,412 was raised at the Church World Service CROP
Walk by participants representing our congregation! This represents over a 6% increase from last year's $1,328.
Good going everyone, walkers and contributors alike! Proceeds of the CROP walk support hunger initiatives, including
support of local organizations such as food banks and soup kitchens, as well as nationwide and worldwide programs.
·
On behalf of our church, and with the help of your contributions,
the Deacons contributed $250 to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance for U.S. Hurricane Response.
· We received $55 during our first year participating in the Peacemaking Offering. This special offering, sponsored by the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., supports peacemaking
initiatives and education. Of the offering received, 25% was retained by our congregation and designated toward
our General Mission pledge to the Presbytery's Cuban Partnership. The remaining 75% supports peacemaking initiatives
of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.

Hurricane Katrina

can direct others to accurate and helpful information and resources.
2. Share the information with others and encourage
them to respond as they feel led.
3. Join in prayer for those who are immediately affected by the hurricane and those
who are working to provide relief.
4. Keep informed by vising the PDA web site for ongoing updates. pcusa.org/pda
Thank
you for being a vital link in the communication ministry of our church!
Alert:
With your help He will find shelter and solid ground. (photo of a man running through
water on flooded street) Even before Hurricane Katrinastruck the Gulf Coast, Presbyterians had already begun responding
to those affected by damage in Florida and preparing for the tremendous needs the storm seemed likely to create in Louisiana,
Mississippi, Alabama and elsewhere. Katrina is recognized as one of the largest disaster in U.S.history and it will
take many years of recovery work utilizing work teams.
As a result Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) has set
aside $500,000from One Great Hour of Sharing and undesignated disaster funds to respond to immediate needs and support the
deployment of disaster team members as they work with presbyteries and congregations to organize the response. An 800
number for work teams will be in place within a couple of weeks. PDA is issuing an appeal for $10 million. With support
from across the country local Presbyterians can respond to neighbors and communities in critical need.
WHAT
YOU CAN DO: Pray. Pray for all those affected directly and indirectly by the hurricane and for those working with them toward
recovery. Give through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Your gifts will enable churches in affected locations to respond
to neighbors in need, to rebuild and repair damaged homes and churches, and to provide emotional and spiritual care to disaster
survivors.
Individual gifts can be made to account number DR000169 (U.S. Hurricane Response) online by
credit card, or checks may be sent directly to Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Individual Remittance Processing, P.O. Box 643700,

CROP WALKS and Hurricane Relief
A Word from Church World Service
(from the CWS Web Site)
The
devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita staggers our imagination and burdens our hearts -- so much loss
of innocent life. Stirred by compassion, millions of people want to respond to the suffering. From Girl Scout troops to the
federal government, in ways great and small, individuals and groups are reaching out to help. Church World Service is grateful
to be one vehicle of that heartfelt response.
The
contributions we receive to our Hurricane Recovery appeal are helping us respond to both the immediate needs and the long-term
recovery of these shattered communities. It is important to remember, however, that the reason CWS is able to make such a
swift and effective response to this disaster (within hours) is in large part because of the on-going support raised by communities
across this nation through CROP WALKS.
CROP
WALKS form the foundation for the work of Church World Service -- without them we would not be in a position to respond. Thanks
to that support we had staff trained in emergency response immediately available and could begin shipping material assistance
(Kits and CWS Blankets) to the affected areas within hours.
Thanks to
CROP WALKS, we’ll be ready when the next emergency occurs. And finally, thanks to CROP WALKS we are at work in over
80 countries responding to the quiet devastation that is hunger, poverty, and disease, which may not make the evening news,
but shatters lives as surely as a hurricane.
