Hazleton's Highest Point, the Jeansville coal bank.

This eye sore, better known as the Jeansville coal bank,
located near the city limits, can be seen from
as far away Redrock Mountain that is almost a County away.
See Photo Below Taken From Redrock Mountain On RT-487
Approx. 2 Miles South of Ricketts Glen State Park.
This Photo Was Taken at 30X Mag. to Show This Object.

Also, you can see this mound just north of
Shenandoah Heights on RT-924.
See Photo Below.

At 2000 feet above Sea Level, it is the highest place in
the Hazleton area.
Topozone.com is where I found the height information.
What is this thing?
It is the left over materials from coal processing,
better known as Culm.
Culm will not burn in coal stoves so,
at that time it was just a
waste product.
However they do burn this in modern plants at high
temp to produce a new lovely waste product called FLY ASH.
The Fly Ash is then used to fill all the holes from strip mining.
At this time, I have no idea what impact this will have on
well water,
the environment,
people's health, and so on.
