I was asked by Don Ross if I would be interested in building and writing a review of the kit for his column in "Flying Models" magazine. Sure, go ahead, twist my arm. This project was started in July '03 and completed in Oct '03. The kit is designed for electric power, and I chose the HiLine Mini 2 from Dave Rees.

There was a lot of ribs to cut out - over 80 full length ribs, and 130 'riblets'! I remember thinking that the disign of the structure called for 1/8" sq sticks, and whereever I could, I reduced it to 3/32" to save weight - especially in the tailfeathers.

The cowl was attached with a three-point magnet attachment so you could access the electric motor if needed. The instrument panel was a xerox drawing enlarged to the correct size and colored with magic marker and colored pencil. The engine graphics were done the same way. The balsa wheels were by Aero-Werkes (formerlly DPCM). The colored tissue was from Mike Midkiff, who just happened to have the khaki colored laying around. The roundel markings were cut from tissue with a 'Olfag" circle cutter.

In the end, I never got a chance to fly this model. It was sold to one of the store managers at Penn Valley Hobby Center.
