This scratch built model was built in May '04 from plans by Mike Nassise. Mike's has drawn plans for both a 16" and 20" version. This is the 20" version.

This is one of the first models I experimented with hand -drawn markings. The horizontal battens were drawn with gel ink, and the solid black fuselage outline was drawn with magic marker after the plane was covered. The windows were tinted with a grey marker and given 'depth' by adding shadow lines around the window frame.

During the initial trimming flights, the model suddenly stopped turning left and ended upside down in a creek. By the time I caught up with it, the tissue had become completely saturated and the ink markings had smeared and run. This began my long standing fascination with getting planes to 'seek out' water for landing. At Wawayanda, 07, I received the "Harvey Wallbanger" award for having the most planes land in the water ditches during the weekend contest. I was very proud.
