This project was started back in Aug '00, and is built from enlarged
Walt Mooney "Peanut Scale" plans.
The plane is very similar to a brick with wings. There is absolutely
no dihedral. This should be interesting.
I've added 1/16x1/32 cap strips to the surfaces of the rudder and stab. They will be sanded
to shape later. I also built and attached the front cowl / mount for the radial engine.
The engine block is made from balsa, as are the 5 cylinders. I've
painted them dark grey, and have wrapped them with tissue paper that has coolin fins drawn on it. I hope to add more detail
- if my interest level allows.
1.27.08:
Covering begins. I'll be using white Esaki. I haven't decided if I'll spray it with silver,
or leave it white - which is close to silver.....if you squint.
The registration letters are cut from black tissue. Two oversized pieces of tissue are cut
and glue stick is applied to the back side and left to dry over night. Each piece is separated by a wax paper to keep them
from sticking together. The pattern is cut from the plan and used as the cutting template. Whatever Mooney's mistakes were,
now they're mine also.
After cutting the letters out, they are attached to the fuselage side by 'floating' rubbing
alcohol through the letter to activate the gluestick.
02.8.08:
Finally - some progress. The wing is now covered and registration numbers added top
and bottom. The red accent trim has also been added to the fuselage outline.
Project is complete. It's as far as I'm going to take it. The prop is a 7" Pecks silver
cut to 6 1/2".
