In 1988, the J/34c was named Sailing World's Boat-of-the-Year*.
That's a pretty good way to start a new sailboat production model. Two years later, hull #33 was produced and today
she is called "Paravela".
In Spanish and Portugese, "Paravela" means "For Sail". When you feel for yourself
how effortlessly she slides through the water, pointing high and running smooth, you will know why her name fits
her well. Being a well blended racer/cruiser, she really excels in sailing performance as you
would expect from a J-Boat. But the other side of her is the cruising comfort she provides. Due to her fine
interior cabinetry, fully equiped galley, 14 opening ports and hatches, oversized master berth, warm lighting, and ample headroom,
she really makes cruising a joy.
*THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS: Great Interior, great performance. No matter how you define "cruising,"
this new shoal draft cruising "J" is way ahead in passagemaking speed; stable, smooth ride; singlehanded ease of operation;
owner privacy; and well ventilated, spacious interior. J/34C was selected Sailing World's 1987 best U.S. built cruising
boat over 33 feet. Experts described it as a "...well finished, comfortable cruising boat with a serious turn of speed."
