The 63 in the above Picture is a whole other story
the are a few details on the 63 409 BelAir page...they do look nice together though :)
It's Alive !
After a new timing chain, ignition coil, and an alternate hot wire to the coil ..
We have a Runner ! ..
Now to fix the NO BRAKES! problem, rewire for an updated Alternator
(NOT A ONE WIRE) I will explain why after I figure out how to install a better (for this application)
3 wire the correct way, with that and a few other issues,
We can see the road again..
Keep checkin .. I'll post as it progresses
Another update
The Generator / Alternator conversion took a bit to figure out but the results are outstanding
, 14.5 volts across the board with all accessories running or not ..
The factory Generator light still works which would not have been possable with a one wire
Alternator.
I went with a GM 3 wire with an internal regulator and very happy that I took that route.
I checked with a few electrical shops and no one was to clear on how to do the conversion
, even checked on a few sites and I was told either one thing would work but have to do without an other.
Even got the remote sensing to operate in the regulator
to prevent overcharging.
If anyone would like to know how to do this conversion you can email me and I can send you
Instructions along with a diagram and also a parts list of what you will need.
Now to see if I can get the Brakes to work .......
It Stops !
Not perfect but it does have a pedal , Dave stopped by today ..same
Dave mentioned on the 62 Nova page.....and he played pump the pedal while i layed under the car breaking rusty lines loose
to bleed out the system after a new Master cylinder was put on along with a bad brake line....seems a little mushy once in
a while ..I'm hoping an adjustment in the 4 wheel drum brakes will help that along..
Put 4 new headlights up front ,,Now I can see :) noticed the brake lights were out
so some new 1157 bulbs went in , Replaced a couple rusty looking fuses..
I took it on a quick drive aroung the block ...The points distributor has to go ..HEI
is next and I'll fix the valve cover leaks too while i'm at it ...
Check back for updates ..might take a little longer this time but i will post as
the car progresses...Thanks for lending a foot Dave!
As of 11/06/05
Ok the HEI is in with a new set of Ignition wires
and spark plugs
I'm going to put some updated pictures of the progress
as you will be able to see the bent up old Valve covers have been replaced ,
the carb freshend up a bit .and also....well you will be able to see by comparing to the pictures at the top of the page.

After timing the ignition I found that the radiator leaks by the
water fill inlet AND it overheats :( Damn ! well I guess i'll check the thermostat and try to find an inexpensive
fan shroud .....
More to come as I move Hopefully forward .....Ah just a small bump in the road.
Check back in about a week or so ............
Radiator has been repaired ..turns out it was just a bad Cap
and for a saftey's sake I replaced the Thermostat while I was there
No Overheating :)
A Flush and Clean, some new Anti-Freeze no new issues...
A new trans has been installed .. the old 4 speed has seen better days ..
It was replaced with a PowerGlide as the car came with new ...
A New floor shifter and the car will be ready to get back on the road..
A new Battery was purchased when this project was started 2 years ago
so I'm hoping it is still good after sitting all this time
Just waiting for warm weather ... and i'll go over the Electrical system
A battery tender sure would have helped there.
I will include a list of parts put into the car
to give a better idea of everything that
has been completed
Give it a little more time
for me to put it together
What a long strange trip it's been ...
