Fli List: Getting Going & Getting Organized

There are so many things to keep in mind as you get ready to start a new session! Here are check-lists to help you get organized for the new year.  Some items are optional of course.

Lead Teachers:

1.        Meet with your site staff to discuss first day/week program expectations, lesson plans, staff organization, and to brainstorm activities.

2.        Call students from previous cycle to remind them of the start date.

3.        Organize a 3-ring binder with site appropriate information, i.e. blank registration forms, attendance sheets, etc.

4.        Collate orientation packages for students.

5.        Possible supplies needed:

· Semester calendars

· Attendance sheets

· Registration forms (old and new for children and adults)

· Needs assessment (computer and classroom)

· Class policies for children

· Attendance policies

· First day/week activities

· Tutor tips

· Volunteer information forms for new volunteers

· Alphabet cards/Number cards

· Student pocket folders

· Index cards

· Pencils, sharpeners, erasers, newsprint, markers

· Paper: lined, printer, construction

· Office supplies (staples, rubber bands, etc.)

· Copies of monthly reports for staff

 

Children’s Teachers:

1. Check in with your lead teacher and with Naomi about goals and themes for the semester

2. Class policies for children

3. Organize supplies and give wish list to Lead Teacher

4. Pocket folder for each child to collect art projects, written work, etc. Plan on presenting these folders to their parents at the end of the session!

5. First day/week activities

6. Create a class “bill of rights” (class rules) with the kids in the first week or two and keep it posted throughout the session

7. Identify a professional development goal for yourself and discuss with your Lead Teacher and Naomi

 

ESL Computer Teachers:

1. Talk with your lead teacher about plans and goals for the spring semester especially regarding Our Stories

2. Assess your students’ skills and interests as early as possible

3. Report any equipment or supply needs to your lead teacher or Evelyn

4. Identify a professional development goal for yourself and discuss with your Lead Teacher and Karisa
