| Lotta, Annika and Gus enjoy an Alpaca moment!! |
Our Family
Our "non alpaca" family consists of Lotta, Gus (10) and Annika (6), three dogs, three cats, one guinnea
pig, a rooster Boots and our guinnea hen.
How we began!!
During the summer of 1997 while sitting in a doctor's office, thumbing through a magazine, my eyes
fell on an ad for "alpacas". I saw the picture of a small child in a pasture of several alpacas and knew they
weren't llamas, but what were they? When I came home I went right to the web, investigating
this curious looking animal. I read all that I could find, and declared to my laughing family that
I was going to "raise alpacas!" Two years flew by during which Gus was born. At this point, I again started
to look into the alpaca business. The concept held an even stronger appeal and created an even greater inspiration
than it had initially. Raising alpacas was something I could do from home, and thus spend more time with the children
and less time commuting and working at the hospital. It would create a wonderful oppurtunity for the children to
learn about animals, responsibility, life, and work on a daily basis. It would be a family-involved business which could incorporate
all members skills and schedules. It also meant that I would realize a life-long dream of having a farm!
I, now officially Lotta Luv Alpacas, bought my first two yearling female huacayas in October of 2001. Three
years from the date of the first purchase, a move to Upton, Massachusetts, much planning and construction and Lotta
Luv Alpacas has its own farm and is up and moving forward! Come visit - Life is great!!
