According to the rules the visiting team is to rake the field after a game, this does not always work when the visiting team is a non Herndon team.
Alabama is the only field we have to play our home games on (most of the time) it is the responsibility of all Herndon teams
to ensure that the field is raked after their games regardless of being home or away.  Coaches while you are having your after-game meeting
with your team please get your parents to fix the field 10 minutes of work will help ensure that if it rains during the night the next day may not
be a washout because of puddles that could have been avoided.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When does the season begin?

The season is broken into two parts:
1) Prep and Alliance season begins the 2nd Saturday in April.  Games are played one weekday evening and on Saturday.
2) Babe Ruth season begins the 2nd Saturday in May (after high school baseball ends).  Two weekday evening games
and one weekend game.

When does the season end?

The season will end by the 3rd week of June.

What happens if I am unable to make tryouts and I am new to the league?

HOBRB tryouts are on Sunday March 9th for evaluation purposes.  All players registered in HOBRB
will make a team even if they are not at tryouts.

How many teams are there in the league and what other leagues do we play against?

HOBRB typically has 3 to 4 systems.  Games are played against Reston and Chantilly.

System

What is the difference between Prep, Alliance and Babe Ruth?

Babe Ruth is the division that is made up of the better players of each system.  They are for the most part,
players that are also playing on their high school’s JV or varsity teams.  As per Babe Ruth League rules,
only eight fifteen year olds are allowed per team.  The remainder of the 12 player roster must be fourteen year olds.
(This is very similar to the majors in Cal Ripken.)

Alliance is made up of the remaining fifteen and fourteen year olds not selected for the Babe Ruth team.
(This would have been the minors in Cal Ripken)

Prep is where all of the thirteen year olds play.

What is a system manager vs. a team manager?

A system manager will form the basis for player drafts, team roster composition, and regular season movement on a game-by-game basis, equipment/uniform distribution and general information distribution.  A team manager is responsible for the management of the team only.

How are team/system managers selected?

Each system manager is supplied with a list of available players (supplied by the HOYB Cal Ripken league).
From this list each system will contact parents to inquire if they would be interested in managing a team.
This selection is then submitted to HOBRB board for approval.

What happens if a player has an issue or a conflict with their system?

A player may request to reenter the draft but must have it approved by the HOBRB commissioner.

Bat-A-Thon

What is the role of Babe Ruth players in Bat-A-Thon?

Babe Ruth players coordinate the “batting event” for the HOYB Bat-A-Thon.  EVERY Babe Ruth player is required
to participate on Bat-A-Thon day.  Each system is assigned a field for the day.  The system must get their assigned field ready.
Responsibilities include: lining all bases; putting up any provided decorations and setting up any needed outfield fencing.
Babe Ruth players will be on the field as scorers and ball retrievers, as well as, announcers and tabulators of batting scores.

What is the role of the Babe Ruth parents have in Bat-A-Thon?

None, other than making sure that their son/daughter is at their assigned field.  However, like any volunteer organization,
any help that you would like to provide would be appreciated.

Equipment

Are metal cleats allowed?

Yes, however, they are not required.  Any one having to replace rubber cleats should consider switching to metal.

Is there a requirement for face protectors on helmets? ie: C/flaps

HOBRB supplies helmets for any player that requires one.  The helmets that are provided do not have any face protectors.
This is a parental issue, you must decide if your child should have face protectors.  HOBRB has C/flaps available
if you feel the need to have one on your child’s helmet.

Are there any size/weight limitations for Bats?

No!  Babe Ruth League has no limitations on bat weight.  The barrow of the bat cannot be larger than 2 ¾ in.
Note bats, which were used in the Cal Ripken league, are still allowed in Babe Ruth.

All-Stars

Is there an All-Star team?

Yes!  Each age group of thirteen, fourteen and fifteen year old teams is selected.  There is also
Alliance team selected from the fourteen and fifteen year olds that played in the Alliance division.

How are players and coaches selected for All-Stars?

The HOBRB Managers select the All-Star Manager.  All managers, coaches and parents, who are interested,
should email John Lyons at jlyons@msn.com.  The players are selected thru tryouts.

Sunday League

What is the Sunday League?

The Sunday league is made up of teams from other Babe Ruth leagues in Northern Virginia.
This additional league was formed so that the better players, that are interested,
would have a place to play other then on a AAU team.
Send me photos and we'll post them here.
