Station 2 - Smith Lane Station primary response area

 
Station 2  is located on Smith Lane in the Exit 8  Independence Mall / Route 44 / MBTA Commuter rail area.
 
Station 2 , Smith Lane primary response area  includes all of Route 3, to the north shopping areas (Kingsbury Square. to the Duxbury line,) west to the Carver Line and South to the Plymouth line.
 
Apparatus assigned to this station are Engine 2, Reserve Engine 3,  Forest Fire Truck - #74 and one Advanced Life Support Ambulance. .
 
Station 2 - Smith Lane is staffed by 2 Firefighter/Paramedics, at all times.
 
Important target protection sites within this area include:
  •  5 public and private schools , three of which have no public water supply for fire protection.
  • An extensive waterfront area with two public and private beaches
  • Over one million square feet of commercial and retail shopping space.
  • Several thousand acres of  heavily wooded, highly flammable  pitch pine and oak forest .
  • Rocky Nook neighborhoods,  which are the most densley populated areas in Kingston.
  • Lower Main Street with many old apartment buildings and homes that date back to the early 1800's.
  • New residential subdivisions with homes valued up to  $2 million.
  • All major transportation routes;    the MBTA commuter line station and train layover facility, all of Route 3,  Route 3A from the intersection of Route 80 south to Plymouth,    Route 80 west to Plympton and Carver,  and all of Route 44 either originate, terminate or lie entirely within the Smith Lane Fire Station primary response area.

Truck 75 - 2000 Brushbreaker. 250 gallon per minute pump; 400 gallon water tank; 20 gallon foam tank.  Primary mission is forest fire suppression.

Engine 2 - 2003 pumper; 1500 gallon per minute pump; 750 gallon tank; 50 gallon foam tank(s); Jaws of Life rescue equipment; 15KW  110 / 220 volt electrical generating system; Advanced life Support medical equipment; defiberlator; Thermal Imaging camera. The primary mission of Engine 2 is structural fire suppression, rescue and first responder emergency medical services.

Engine 3 - 1986  pumper; 1250 gallon per minute pump; 500 gallon water tank , 1000 feet 4 inch hose. Engine 3's primary mission is structural and brush fire suppression.

2004  Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance. This ambulance is equipped with the highest level of medical emergency equipment allowed by Massachusetts regulations.
One of two similar units in the Fire Department.
