The Karen Ann Stansbury - Brown Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc.
Application and Approval Process
Upon approval of the Scholarship Committee,
the Karen Ann Stansbury-Brown Memorial Scholarship Foundation shall award scholarships to deserving students for their
college education. Students must reside in the following areas Anne Arundel County,
Baltimore County, or Baltimore City to be considered for a scholarship. The
Foundations' primary purpose shall be to provide financial assistance to students pursuing a higher education.
Applications
may be submitted by students that are completing their senior year of high school, students already enrolled in a college
or a university, non-traditional students, or students pursuing a post secondary education.

It is of utmost importance that you use these guidelines as a checklist for requirements.
If
your application packet does not have the required attachments listed below, it will not be reviewed.
Eligibility
1. Must be a resident of Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County,
or Baltimore City.
2. Must be a high school senior or already enrolled in a
full-time accredited two or four-year college or university.
3. Must demonstrate financial need.
4. Must be involved in a community service program, preferably
with youth.
5. Must have been accepted by an institution of higher learning before making application for assistance.
Student Criteria and Information
1. All students must submit the following:
a. Standard
application for the Karen Ann Stansbury-Brown
Memorial Scholarship Foundation
b. Karen Ann Stansbury-Brown Memorial Scholarship Foundation Financial Need Form (to be completed by the
college or university your attending)
c. A copy of your Student Aid Report
d. Three letters of recommendation (one from teacher or professor, one from
the community service organization from which you participate, and one personal).
e. A copy of your official high school or college transcript that should
include GPA and class rank, these will serve as one of the indicators of academic excellence, college applicant’s grade
point average must be at least a 3.0

A copy of letter of acceptance from college
or university that student is attending / evidence of attendance by college or graduate school
g. A minimum of three hundred not to exceed five hundred word essay. Choose
one of the selected topics
1. Students are not meeting the basic educational requirements
in reading and math. What curriculum changes would you suggest to increase academic performance?
2. What qualities or achievements would you feel justified in calling an individual successful?
3. By accomplishing your career goals, what contributions do you feel you can make to society?
4. What steps need to be taken in order to reduce crime? Explain.
5. If you were president what law would you enact and why?
2. KASB has the right to request any additional materials
including current year tax returns from the student.
3. KASB will hold personal interviews with final candidates.
4. As a condition of accepting the scholarship, all recipients
shall agree to participate in all efforts to promote and publicize the Karen Ann Stansbury-Brown
Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
General Information
1.
Scholarships are awarded
on a yearly basis.
2. All recipients of assistance from the KASBMSF must submit a complete application
package for each year that they seek additional assistance from the Foundation.
The same criteria
requirements are applicable.
3. Completed application and all necessary attachments are to be returned
to the KASB office by July 1, 2008.
4.
Scholarship awardees will
be notified by mail.
5. Scholarship awards will be presented to the awardees at the KASB annual
awards luncheon or dinner
6.
Those who are pursuing a
degree in education are urged to apply.
