Guidelines for National Festival for the Performing Arts

Guidelines

 NATIONAL FESTIVAL FOR PERFORMING ARTS:
 
CRS is pleased to announce a festival which will begin on July 3rd for a period of about two weeks on various campuses throughout Philadelphia and surrounding area institutions selected by CRS. Special Fellowship recipients will receive solo appearances in concert on Festival sites. Fellowship Composers will receive a performance of a new prize winning work(s) chosen by the Festival Chamber Committee according to the results of submitted performance tapes/scores. Dance applicants may submit resume, recommendations and a video taped performance. Visual Arts applicants may submit resume and sample works. Authors may submit copyrighted/non-copyrighted works with resume. Art and dance exhibitions will be held on festival grounds. Participants gaining acceptance to the festival will be included in the commercial recording of works/soloists and Ensembles, released on the CRS label. Contestants must agree to waive all rights of said recording in return for the artistic exposure and cultural benefits, while contributing to the benefit of this cultural endeavor. During the Festival term the Committee will consider selecting CRS National Competition winners, from among the Festival participating composer/performer/dance/art and literature members. A distinguished selection of outstanding members who will perform their compositions with the Chamber Society Festival, may be featured in concert/commercial recording with production costs covered by grants obtained by CRS, upon acceptance of the CRS committee. Master Classes/lectures in chamber music/composition/orchestral technique, will be conducted by visiting members/participants and members of the staff.
Accepted applicant/ensemble, will contribute all artistic service to the Festival and its recording for the above benefits and exposure.
(There are no age restrictions)


1. Instrumental/vocal artists must submit a performance tape including two or more compositions displaying technical proficiency and artistic maturity presenting excerpts from solo/chamber and orchestral repertoire. (one taped application only).

2. Composers must send scores/tapes and pertinent information on chamber works/large ensemble/solo works. (Each work submitted requires an entrance fee)

3. Fellowships for full or part tuition will be given to a large number of applicants determined by the committee evaluation of the applicants requesting financial assistance. (These applicants should include a letter requesting assistance) Fellowships will also be awarded to participants for superior ability/quality, presentation and personal achievements on a scholarship and non scholarship basis and may be awarded during the festival.

4. Tuition and Fees: Registration fee is $95.00 payable by May 15th together with this application/duplicate. Tuition is $800.00. Room and board is available to a limited number of applicants, for an additional $650.00. Indicate by returning this application, signing in the space provided at the approved signature below, (all fees/tuition/deposits are non-refundable and payable on or before May 15th.)

5. Conductors may submit resume, taped rehearsal/performance in ensemble/master class/lecture with recommendations. The finalist will be selected during the completion of festival rehearsals in Philadelphia.

6. A self-addressed envelope, including postage, is required for those who wish to have their material returned. (CRS is not responsible for lost or damaged material).
