Becky
Lowe, and Eastern Shore native, is an award-winning artist and has been a
resident of the waterfront community of Crisfield, Maryland for the last
twenty years, Becky has been independently self-employed in the commercial
sign-making business during those years as owner/operator of "Brushworks, Inc.,"
where she creates computer-generated vinyl lettering and artwork for signs,
banners, trucks and boats. She holds a degree in art from Salisbury State
University.
Through lettering work boats of commercial watermen, Becky
has been able to gain many insights into their lifestyle and attitudes and she
works to incorporate such insights into the moods of her paintings. With her
paintings, her goal is to capture moments in time, whether they be simple
reflections on a still harbor or the serene chore of a waterman tending a carb-scraping
rig. Times are changing in the waterfront town of Crisfield. Her art records
scenes that may one day disappear.
Over the years she has shown her work successfully at many
area art shows. Her list of awards includes: "Best Depicting the Eastern Shore,"
a silver award given by the Art Institute and Gallery in Salisbury, Maryland,
and "Best Depicting the Spirit of the Bay Country," at the Dorchester Educators
Annual Exhibit in Cambridge, Maryland. One of her original oils received, the
Mayor's award, "Best in Show" and "First Place, Professional," at the Art
Institute and Gallery Spring Exhibit in 1991. Her work was also awarded a
ribbon at a Baltimore Watercolor Society event.
Currently, she displays her work in the showroom at her
Wynfall Avenue sign shop and at Jane's Accents gifts shop on Main Street in
downtown Crisfield. Visitor's are always welcome, but it is a good idea to
call ahead in case she's out lettering a boat.
