The M1917 Troop Pack Saddle utilized the sidebars and rigging of an M1904 McClellan, attached to a pannier system.
It is extremely easy to use, and flexible as well.
It is an example of a simple war-time expedient that works well, and would have required no special skills of troops
already familiar with the M1904 saddle.
