AutoCAD 2000 Certification Study Guide

The AutoCAD Certification Exam is administered on-line by Brainbench. Their website is www.brainbench.com. Your computer must have AutoCAD loaded in order to take the exam. The cost is $49.95, and a retake runs $24.98. If the exam is attempted four times in 90 days this fact is noted on your transcript. Students who pass the AutoCAD certification are eligible for a verified SOL credit, if your drafting instructor is also certified (Mr. Ruf is Master Certified in AutoCAD #5441027).

The exam consists of 40 five-choice multiple choice questions, and 45 minutes to an hour is the average testing time. The certification is valid for three years. Scores range from 1.0 to 5.0, with a 2.75 being the minimum passing score. Those who excel on the exam with a score of 4.0 or higher are issued "master"  certifcation. The AutoCAD 2000 Certification Exam only tests 2-D knowledge.

The competencies for the exam are as follows:
  • Blocks, Attributes, & Xrefs
  • Creating Objects
  • Dimensioning
  • Drawing
  • Editing
  • Oragnization (Getting Started)
  • Layers, Colors, Linetypes
  • Printing and Plotting
  • Text
  • Utilities

Brainbench assesses student performance on the exam, and provides an analysis of strengths and weaknesses.

Each multiple choice question has five answer choices. there is only one best answer.

Students are allowed 180 seconds to answer each question. Brainbench warns you when you have less than 30 seconds remaining to answer a question.

If you run out of time on a question it is scored as incorrect. You may not go back and change an answer if time has run out.

All information needed to answer a question is provided in a section above the question.

Students have the option to pause once for fifteen minutes during the exam (only after answering a question); other than that you may not pause the test once you begin.

Students may verify answers with AutoCAD during the exam, but remember the 180 second time limit still applies.

Students must carefully read each question to ensure they understand it before attempting to answer.

Students should review the key concepts and skills study guide provided on this site.

Students should create their own practice problems to augment those provided.

Students must practice for the exam often to ensure the best opportunity for success.

Students should take advantage of group cooperative learning opportunities such as these preparation classes.

Students should keep in mind that much of the certification exam consists of "AutoCAD trivia" and should study accordingly.

Students must bear in mind that in AutoCAD there are usually multiple ways to complete a task; students must familiarize themselves with alternative task completion methods.

Students should avail themselves of practice exam opportunities.

Students must employ proven strategies to comprehend, retain and recall accurately the various AutoCAD concepts.

Students must be carefully prepared for the exam, and have an appropriate test-taking strategy in place.
