Excerpt from Ester bat Shmuel Yosif v’ Branah—A Memoir

Rebbenu ( z”l) taught:  “We are obligated as Jews to tell the world about the Shoah (Holocaust).  There are two ways of teaching about this sadness:  one, the way the world likes, is to tell how bad the other side was to us; the other way is to teach the world who the six million were.

Mama sits in her big chair, the one we bought at a garage sale because she would never have accepted a new one.  “Money is for saving, you never know when we might be deported.” ………

UPDATE:

CONGRATULATIONS--RAVING DOVE...
THE FOLLOWING APPEARED IN
Literary Magazine Reviews

Raving Dove:  (4th Anniversary edition Number 13 Summer 2008)

Review by Micah Zevin

Raving Dove is like an impressionist painting that you have continuously observed in order to view obscured or distant images or ideas that you may have missed at first glance. Its literary sensibility seems to be one of simple and precisely written elegance to evoke serious political ideas, such as the affects of war, a central focus in this issue, and how it defines our “humanity,” whether it is in the form of nonfiction, poetry, fiction or photography.   TO READ THE REST OF THE REVIEW.....

Tovli's poem, Bourgeoisie received an award in West Virginia Poetry Society's annual poetry contest in the  "Art With Words" category.

Tovli received two Awards in Short Fiction in the 2006 West Virginia Writers' Awards.

  • "Sarah" and
