The Washington Kantorei, under the baton of music director Dale F. Voelker, will present a concert of German motets from the Baroque and 20th Century featuring compositions by Schein, Scheidt, Schuetz, J. S. Bach, Distler, Mendelssohn and “Jona” Chorerzaehlung—Koerppen.

Co-founded in November 1993 by Dr. Voelker and Robert Petillo, The Washington Kantorei aims to recreate in the Washington, DC area the German Kantorei tradition that Dr. Voelker had encountered in his studies at the Westphalia School of Church Music, under choral legends Wilhelm Ehmann and Frauke Haasemann. The Washington Kantorei specializes in performing unpublished manuscripts, particularly sacred music, of the German Baroque, and in exploring new and unusual choral repertory of all eras, especially that of Central Europe and Scandinavia.
