My players’ aggressiveness is based off of of NFL2K’s 127/64 Aggression Formula, which puts DB’s, O-linemen, QB’s and kickers at a 64 aggressiveness rating; and D-linemen, receivers, linebackers and the backfield at a 127 aggressiveness rating.  I was very skeptical at first, not knowing NFL2K’s work, but this is brilliant.  The man is a consummate researcher and developer.  Check it out for yourself: ESPN NFL 2k7 Enhancement PakThe linemen fight harder and dirtier, the receivers block and go for the ball more, the DB’s swat and jump routes and the running backs hit the holes a lot tougher.  It’s great.  However, I didn’t want, say, Mark Roman or even Jay Bellamy to be quite as aggressive as Ken Hamlin or Troy Polamalu.  So I incorporated some simple variability.

Here are my formulas that I used inside Finn’s Global Attribute editor:

Select all teams, then the positions indicated:

QB/K/P  -  subtract 60%, then add 25 points

OL/DB    subtract 50%, then add 40 points;

              then subtract 50% again, and add 33 points

DL/WR/TE/RB/LB  -  subtract 50%, then add 80 points;

                           then subtract 50% again, and add 65 points

These formulas will give you a range within 12 points (plus/minus) of 64 or within 21 points (minus) of 127, based on a player’s original aggressiveness rating.

I've only noticed one flaw in the enhanced player aggressiveness.  It is now much easier to block kicks--although still never a gimme.  You may want to take that into account and attempt a block only when it makes true football sense.  A way around this is to use the Field Goal Defend and still try the block when a block would not be crucial to the game.  I myself only use the Field Goal Block when a coach would seriously call it in desperation or point strategy.  I also rarely call a Punt Block unless the team punting is backed up close to the endzone and I'm badly in need of points.  I would assume that a lot of people will like the easier blocks, while the true stategy fanatics would use a realistic strategy anyway, so it should work out for everyone.

For those of you who believe in the purity of the original roster supplied with the game, there will always be an updated roster before there is an updated aggressiveness roster.  I'll try to make both available from this website, and both will be identical except for the players’ aggressiveness ratings.

For 2007, an Aggressive roster will not be available until the final roster is posted, a couple weeks before the playoffs.

Enjoy!
