The Music...

This page introduces the " OurEarthlyAngels "compact disc. It contains a blend of some of my favorite songs that will appeal to a wide audience. It's all here: Romantic ('the Jester and the King'), honky-tonk country ('A Cheater'), contemporary blues ('What's Your Name?'), and the exciting live-performance favorite of real mountain music ('the Moonshiner's  Code' and ('the Brown Mountain Lights')      ...and  much more!

And of course, there's the most unique musical theme:
" DogSongs"... these are the songs and performances that are closest to my heart. They portray in melody and lyrics the special devotion to dogs that all rescue volunteers, trainers, and dedicated owners feel toward their companions.  These are something you must hear !

I write what I want to hear and what springs from my imagination and upbringing in the true "home of country music" ... Bristol, Tennessee. The eastern Tennessee mountains, Great Smokey Mountains (that run into North Carolina), and southwestern Virginia are the true home of 'mountain music' : the remnants of musical themes and melodies from our ancestors over 200 years ago. It's not 'hillbilly', it's  authentic America  !

"The Dog That Could Talk" ...  A story not so far from reality that will open your mind and heart to the true role of the Dog in our fragile world. More than ever, we need the Dog and its ability to anchor us in Nature. It's included as a free download for those who buy the CD   "Earthly Angels".

Dog or Wolf? This is easy: a dog is not a wolf. A dog is a separate species from wolf or fox. Although domesticated dogs did descend from a wolf, they are not alike. A coyote is closer to a wolf than a dog in its behavior, and we would not confuse the two, would we?
Breeding a dog to a wolf ('hybrid') is illegal in some states and strictly regulated in most. It is a very dangerous practice and the ratio of serious injury from hybrids is rated at nearly 80% by the ASPCA. NEVER allow children to have unsupervised contact with a hybrid.

What jobs do dogs have?
Among others, the familiar ones are...
- Guiding eyes for the blind
- Search and Rescue in disasters
- Tracking criminals or lost elders and children
- Apprehension of criminals
- Drug and explosive detection
- Retrievng game in the field
- catching vermin
- Therapy dogs for the disabled and autistic
- Guarding the home or military installations

What is dog 'rescue' ?
It's the volunteer work of locating a home for dogs surrendered to shelters by their owners. The dogs are 'safehoused' by caring people who screens adoption applicants. Most states require that adopted dogs be neutered.

How do dogs 'see' humans? Visually in limited colors, but a dog's nose is it primary sensory organ (as to a human's eyes). Dogs have good vision for changing body postures and hand signals. Dogs are able to signal one another with postures and facial expressions (ears laid back, stares, etc.) and people who learn to "read" dogs are wise to do so... it may avoid a bite from a frightened or aggressive dog.

Click and Treat... huh? Using a toy clicker paired with food treats has become the accepted method for training mammals by virtually all professional trainers. It is so fast, reliable, fun and gentle that it obviates any other method. Click and Treat, clicker training, positive reinforcement are the terms commonly used in this method.

Dogs rule! (cats drool)... is an old joke. But there is much truth in it. Dogs alone have a true relationship with humans that provides benefits to both species. Because they are so trainable and useful, dogs rise above all other creatures in their utility to mankind.

Dogs are our window on the world; they reconnect us with the real natural environment that all animals live in. We ignore it because we are 'into our heads' and not our bodies.

...Standing by for fun!
