We've got to believe the 'No" that we say
will have the power to stop
before we can embrace "Yes"
We've got to know
that if someone is close enough to hurt us,
we can hurt them
Knowing that we will
if we need to and that we won't if we don't
and we've got to know how and when to know the difference.

We've got to believe that our lives are worth fighting for,
worth speaking up for
worth keeping safe distance for
worth thinking through
worth sharing in the telling

We've got to believe in our bones
and from there........

We can begin to know peace
We can accept the power of our limits
and the unlimited power of our imaginations
We can let our hearts break open
over and over again
and know that what endures
is love.

As a senior instructor at Valley Women's Martial Arts, Dorian regularly teaches self-defense as part of the ongoing self-defense classes offered at the school in Easthampton and in the community.
