The Pantanal is "a vast area that contains one of the world's great ecosystems--huge expanses of sub-tropical wetland forests and wet grasslands, and a hundred or more major and minor rivers." [Brazil  Amazon and Pantanal, by David L. Pearson and Les Beletsky, Academic Press, New York, 2002, p. 5.]  These photos were taken in the Pantanal in January, 2005.
