Reflections of an Empty Mind...

Prajnaparamita...

Empty and calm and devoid of self
Is the nature of all things.
No individual being
In reality exists.

There is no end or beginning,
Nor any middle course.
All is an illusion,
As in a vision or a dream.

All beings in the world
Are beyond the realm of words.
Their ultimate nature, pure and true,
Is like the infinity of space.

-Prajnaparamita
From “The Pocket Buddha Reader,” edited by Anne Bancroft Shambhala Publications, Boston, 2001.

Above is a passage taken from the Prajnaparamita (Diamond) Sutra which is a very important text in Zen Buddhism.  In my free time when I'm not working at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or going to school at John Hopkins University I enjoy Zen Buddhist mediation and eastern philosophical discussion.  I meditate at the American Zen College in Germantown, Maryland USA.  Additional information about the college can be obtained from the website (located in the links section of the website) or through direct communication with me via email.
I would like to share some favorite passages from a collection of different writing from the historical Buddha and others that I have gained wisdom and understanding from.  Under each passages is the reference from which it was taken.  I hope you enjoy these passages and find them as helpful to you as they have been to me.

Anger

Let go of anger.
Let go of pride.
When you are bound by nothing
You go beyond sorrow.

SEVEN

Heaven and earth last forever.
Why do heaven and earth last forever?
They are unborn,
So ever living.
The sage stays behind, thus he is ahead.
He is detached, thus at one with all.
Through selfless action, he attains fulfillment.

-Tao Te Ching
