Talbot Dance Club Background

Purpose

The Talbot Dance Club is a not-for-profit, all-volunteer, social organization.  Dances are held at a convenient location that permits the enjoyment of live music, use of a spacious wooden dance floor, and the ready availability of snacks and beverages.  For the past decade the chosen site has been the Elks Lodge No. 1622 at 502 Dutchman’s Lane in Easton, Maryland,  near the Easton High School.  Members come from Talbot County and as far away as Salisbury,  Dover and Annapolis.

Regular dances are held on the first Friday evening of each month, October through June (except January).  The 2007-08 season begins with the October 5th dance, hosted by the Executive Committee.  Music begins at 8 PM and ends at 11 PM.

The Club is led by an elected Executive Committee. Each dance event is coordinated by a  rotating host committee, drawn from the membership roster who prepare the evening's table decorations and serve in the receiving line.

The Club’s By-laws provide that membership is limited to 70 partner couples, thus balancing annual budget considerations with the pleasure of an uncrowded dance floor.  Tuxedos for gentlemen and elegant formalwear for ladies are required.

The dances themselves are a contemporary mix of popular ballroom dances: fox trot, waltz, tango, cha-cha, swing, rumba, polka, samba, salsa, Argentine tango, and West Coast swing.

Most bands also honor requests for particular songs and dances.  Occasional line dances fall into this category, and requests for them are accommodated as well.

Complimentary parking is available at the Elks Lodge, and  coat checking  is provided during the winter months.

Membership

Talbot Dance Club members have enjoyed ballroom dancing  in the mid-Shore area for 75 years.  2007 is indeed a special year for us!  Recognizing that dancing is a social activity, the Talbot Dance Club presents  live bands in a formal setting.

Prospective new members may attend one dance as guests.  This first-hand experience contributes to an  informed decision about  applying for Club membership.  For new members joining during the season,  dues are prorated.
