Well, they tell me nobody reads blogs on websites, so I figure I can say just about anything without annoying
anyone too much. Today, Dominic Jengo (Maywood Rotary Treasurer) and I went to do our power point presentation to the
Wayne Rotary Club in New Jersey. They were a great group of people who were inspired by our tale of helping the
school. Two people volunteered to pay for TWO full ($2,500.00 each) high school scholarships for current 8th graders!
Now, that covers ALL tuition, room, board, and all other expenses for all four years!
On top of that, one Rotary elementary school teacher said she wanted her school to get involved in
raising funds for the school. I was so grateful, this will be the third elementary school that has put their whole heart
into helping the school.
Also, four women expressed a strong desire to go on our volunteer trip in 2008. I am so afraid that
when the 08 trip registration opens up in September 07, we will have too many more applicants than the 22 spaces available.
If I had a full time volunteer secretary, we could do this trip twice a year instead of once a year. But then I'd have
to go out and get a job just to pay for my airfare! :)
Maybe the best news out of talking with the Wayne Rotary Club is that the president elect would like to
"adopt" another local elementary school in the area. Personally that's the best news I can imagine. I never got
into this thing (at first part time, and now full time) just to help this one Maasai school ONLY. I was hoping that
many other Rotary Clubs, schools or other organizations would adopt their own Maasai school. I dreamed of many organizations
with their own "Kenya Project" helping their own school. They tell me that there are 19 elementary schools in the entire
Maasai Mara, all of them in need of an adoptive sponsor. I know of two, Nkoilale and Sekenani in our area, but there
are others.
That's why it was great news to hear that the president elect of the Wayne Rotary Club NJ, was interested
in adopting their own school. I hope it works out and will be Nkoilale Primary School; which is about six miles from
our school, Empopongi Primary school. I'll do anything to help any organization adopt their own school. That's
the way to change the world.
