TIME TO UPDATE YOUR WILL?

I recently read a study that 70% of adult Americans do not have a will. If you already have a Will, great - but have you taken the time to update this all important instrument in the past few years?

As we all know, life changes constantly. Financial circumstances change, hopefully for the better. Tax laws change - all too often! We buy and sell houses, have kids and presto - our Last Will and Testament is out of date.

  • Marriage - Obviously changes our entire life. We have at least one new beneficiary - and maybe more.
  • Divorce - removes at least one beneficiary.
  • Job Changes - hopefully will bring you more money and greater satisfaction - but it also requires a new look at the Will
  • Tax Laws - change all too often - but lately for the better. But even good news from the tax man may lead to needed changes in our legal documents.

And remember - Wills are not for "old people". Many families learn that the hard way. Everyone over 18 years old should have their plan in place - and update it constantly. It's a small price to pay for great peace of mind - and - your family will be the real winners.

With the recent events in the news - awareness of Living Wills and Health Care Proxies has come to light. Both a Living Will and Health Care Proxy, as well as a Power of Attorney, should be part of your Estate planning documents.
