Alien Virus Defeated!
Well, almost. I'm still shedding this viral skin. Soon I shall be free. And I will
be in the studio on Tuesday. I thank Jim Alvino for handling the duties of hosting BNM the last two weeks.
This Tuesday I will be spinning a lot of new stuff (Woods Of Ypres, Hate Eternal, Mystic Prophecy),
a lot of '80s stuff (Amulance, Scanner, Kublai Khan), as well as featuring the awesome new compilation "Thrashing Like A Maniac"
released by Earache Records that highlights a bunch of new Thrash bands. I'll spin the entire comp, blocks of 3 songs
at a time, and I'll be giving away copies too. So tune in, tell me your favorite Thrash band, song & album, answer some
trivia, and I may have a copy of the best Thrash comp in years for you. Also
on the playlist are a few requests (Thunderbolt, Kataxu) and some very rare live tracks. And if you have any requests,
send me an email.
"Special Broadcasts" has been updated.

BNM reshuffled for tonight!
"Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in!"
I have been very sick, off and on since beginning of January. Yesterday, I was back
to almost 100% after my second round of illness. But last night around 9pm, I felt a sudden change (but not morphing into
primal, free stuff to whomever gets that reference). By this morning, I was out of it again. I tried working today, but failed.
So another trip to the doctor's office leads me to being out-of-action for a couple of days. I am quite miserable. Even though
I've previously and proudly offered up BNM to you while battling sickness, and want to tonight as well, I can not. Doctor's
orders. And I do not want to spread my illness around the station.
Jim Alvino, host of the Hard Rock/Metal show Turn
It Up on Tuesdays 1-3pm will be your BNM dj from 10pm until midnight. Jim will spin Metal of the Traditional & Power
styles for 2 hours. No Black or Death tonight, but he will offer up quality Metal in my absence. I thank Jim for keeping the
Metal banner flying high tonight. Please feel free to call Jim tonight and request songs/bands: 603.430.9722
Tonight's scheduled "Guest Playlist" courtesy of Monster Mick is being rescheduled.
His playlist will definitely be worth the wait.

EXODUS ATTACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Exodus tour rolled into Bedford, NH Saturday night, at the strip club that
does not allow moshing. Since Exodus is the very definition of mosh, this did not seem logical. Yeah, that rule did not last.
I got there too late to see Warbringer. Argh! Because the venue booked
376 opening bands, they did the 2-stage thing so locals were in between headliners. Anyway, I wound up getting there when Goatwhore
was onstage. This band has a following, and they seem quite good at what they do, but their music does nothing for me. I've
seen them 3 times, and I'm not a convert. But I was there for one band.
I was expecting to enjoy a frustrating set, as standing still/not moving while Exodus
is on stage just does not seem right. Well the crowd would have none of that. When the band opened with Riot Act, the
pit opened too. A small one, but the venue is small...not much room. The new Exodus album, The Atrocity Exhibition, seems to
be a love it or hate it album in part due to the lengthy songs. For the record, the 4 songs from this album sound far better
live than on record. Very fast, and pit-raging in fact. Riffmasters Gary Holt and Lee Heathen Altus were on top of those tunes,
shredding the fretboards quite well. But what impressed me most were Rob on vocals and Tom on drums. Rob gave 1000% the entire
show; no vocal slackage on Saturday. His onstage banter was entertaining: from threatening crowd members, to advocating bombing
the middle east, to hating the law of not allowing alcohol on stage, to lamenting on people being thrown out for moshing, to
wondering why we all weren't next door at the strip club. And I never truly appreciated Tom's drum skills until seeing him
pound away at top speed. Impressive. Gary called him the greatest Thrash drummer ever. Ultimately, this was the best show
I've ever seen at this club. It had a lot to do with the fact that there was moshing for the entire 90-minute set, and only
a few people were thrown out. After awhile, it seemed that we were just allowed to circle it up. This was the most fun I've
had in a pit in awhile. Totally old-school, though not violent. The highlight of the night: Exodus closing with The Toxic
Waltz, the pit circling from front to back (side to side was too narrow), and Gary & Lee actually on the floor in
the pit shredding the riffs while Rob screamed the lyrics we all know and love from the front of the pit. Bands need to play
in the crowd more often. Show: A+, 10/10

Albums I'm listening to & that you should get
STORMWARRIOR - NORTHERN RAGE German Speed Metal! The guitar riffing is reminiscent
of other German Power/Traditional Metal bands such as Running Wild and Grave Digger. And even American band Destiny's End.
This album is steeped in Norse history, and even though this is a subject typical of Folk and Black Metal bands Stormwarrior
makes it work. If Gamma Ray were sped up a lot, and weren't so damn happy sounding, they'd be close to these guys. There are
plenty of fast tunes, and the intensity of the guitars, the riffing, the pounding of the drums and the overall pace keeps
this from being another just another Power Metal album. Northern Rage is nothing at all original, and you've heard this style
before, but Stormwarrior makes it work.
V/A - THRASHING LIKE A MANIAC This brand new Thrash compilation of new bands playing
Thrash '80s style is the best release Earache Records has put out in some time. This is the soundtrack to your one-man
circle pit while blasting this in your room. Make no mistake, this is old-school style Thrash, not core and not "modern" Thrash
heard from many Scandinavian bands. Every song on the compilation is guaranteed to have you in your patch-ridden denim jacket
and filthy white sneakers, literally thrashing like a maniac. Be forewarned about listening to this while driving. I am serious;
I am not joking. At the least, you will get a $400 speeding ticket. Or even worse, you'll wrap your car around a telephone
pole. Every single song rules in the same way your old Thrash classics do. Not a bad track here, and there is enough variation
between bands so the tracks do not blend together. Compilations can be a mixed bag, but not Thrashing Like A Maniac. The album
features bands from different labels, and only a few bands are already recognizable in the scene. Click here for more info on TLAM. After your hear this cd, please purchase the cds from these bands
and buy their merch. Support the scene!
RAINBOW - THE VERY BEST OF I've always been a fan of best of/greatest hits cds
in the Pop and Rock genres. In Metal, not as much. Rainbow is not really a Metal band, but is influential in the scene due
to Ritchie Blackmore's guitar playing, and of course Ronnie God Dio on vocals for the first three albums. It is the first
7 cuts on this best of that represent those albums, thus the most relevant. These proto-Metal tunes are essential
in anyone's collection. Most Metalheads do not have any '70s classics beyond Priest. Again, Rainbow was more Hard Rock, but
you still need this compilation to introduce yourself to what Dio was doing before Sabbath and his solo albums, and to RB's
axework that influenced sooo many in Metal (particularly Yngwie). Stargazer is an absolute monster that is highly regarded
and one of the finest epic tunes to come from that decade. Dio to this day still performs Long Live Rock & Roll and Man
On The Silver Mountain in concert. Tracks 8-16 are their commercial radio rock tunes that feature Graham Bonnet and Joe
Lynn Turner on vocals. You'll be surprised that you likely know these songs. Stone Cold and Street Of Dreams being the
standout hits.
