Post-production can involve any of the following activities:
- Tape Editing
- Non-Linear Editing
- Sound Editing (i.e. "voice-over" narration)
- Sound Mixing (i.e. music)
- Additional Graphics
- Field segment insertion
- Bleeping
- Credits
- Dubbing for Guests
- Dubbing for Channels/Broadcast
- Tape Labeling
Many shows that are shot "live-to-tape" do not require post-production. However, there are several reasons why a
show would not be completed in one three-hour studio session and therefore require post-production:
- Segments are shot out of sequence to accomodate guests that must leave early.
- Material is shot so that scenes with the same lighting or set arrangements are grouped together to keep the production
moving along at a faster rate, though out of chronological order.
- The director desires multiple takes to be shot, with final evaluation to take place in the editing process with
another producer.
- Tapes shot in the studio will be edited by the producer using home computer editing equipment.
