Wise Men Still Seek Him!
“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the King, behold,
there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.”
Matt. 2:1-2
I sometimes wonder if there are any wise men left on earth.
Now I am not saying that people are stupid, or that they are not intelligent.
One can be well taught and have much education, yet still not be wise. Not
so long ago, we heard of a bright young man who made bombs. He is no fool, but
he is not very wise. Education does not make people wise, it only makes them
crafty. There are a lot of smart men and women in prison. The Bible says, “Great men are not always wise” (Job).
The truth is most people do not know how to think. They simply believe
what they have been taught, without question. For example, the theory of evolution
is taught as a proven scientific fact. I remember when I first discovered that
I had been lied to. It was a shock. We
never ask how it is possible. It is interesting to me that there are at least
three theories of evolution. I believe none of them are true. In fact, they contradict one another. But pride says, don’t
trouble me with the truth, my mind is made up.
The Bible says, “The fool has said in his heart, there is no God.” He has a closed his mind. No doubt he can read, write, and
has some education, but has a closed mind. Remember, once men taught that the
earth was flat. Now we are taught that it is billions of years old, and it all
happened by chance. But natural reason and logic says, by what power and by what
law? Chance? Wise men know a design
must have a designer. A building must have a builder. But you say no, it just happened; for no reason and without a purpose.
We came from nothing and are headed there again.
Wise men of all ages know better. When Jesus
was born, the wise men came seeking Him. A fool says it doesn’t matter,
but the wise men seek. There is something in us that says there is more; there
is truth somewhere and I shall find it.
The Bible says if we will seek, we shall find.
The wise men who came from the east had been seeking a long time. They looked into religion, but it wasn’t there. They
had wealth, but they sought more.
They must know the truth.
In Luke 2:11, it says, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,
which is Christ the Lord.” They worshipped Him, and gave of their treasure
– gold, Frankincense, and myrrh. Their wisdom led them to God. Matt. 1:21 says,
“…and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their
sins.”
Wise men seeking, wise men finding, wise men rejoicing in their salvation.
“When they saw the star, they rejoiced
with exceeding great joy.”
(Matt. 2:10)
All men are seeking something, but not all are wise.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Prov. 1:7) So, what are you seeking? Is it joy, peace, forgiveness? All of these things are good,
but where are you looking? In a bottle, perhaps pleasure, or many other things.
“But rather seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be
added unto you.” Luke 12:31
Wise men still seek him. May the lord bless
you with wisdom this Christmas season. The wise shall find him. What about You?
Merry Christmas from the New Hope Baptist Church Family!
