Level 1 Introduction
Can paddle a stable kayak with limited maneuvering in calm water
 
Level 2 Basic
Perform basics strokes and deep water rescues in calm water
 
Level 3 Intermediate
Basic strokes, edge, bracing, rescues, roll, and tow in moderate conditions
 
Level 4 Intermediate/Advanced
Strokes with grace, bracing, edging, and negotiate surf all in rough seas and Force 4 wind (16 knots). 
Negotiate current, conduct rescues, roll, and tow in rough/open water

Coastal Kayak Day Trip Leading Assessment
  • Plan a trip on protected waters, identify hazards
  • Screen participants, determine equipment
  • Organize, brief and lead
  • Demonstrate skills in moderate conditions
