They say copying is the greatest form of flatterly...so I guess I flatter the designers at Sticks with this creation.  Jim and I wanted to have a nursery with a Sticks theme at a fraction of the price, so I spent a great deal of my pre-natal time working on these colorful folk art pieces.  I used a wood burner to burn the images into pine, then painted the grooves with black, then applied the colorful shading, topped off with a clear glaze for the final effect.  I will slowly but surely continue to add pieces to the kids room.

Growth Chart
growth.jpg
Completed 2002

This is a growth chart that has different little sayings with each image such as "Growing Like a Wee", "Up Up and Away", "Shoot for the Moon"...  There are holes drilled in the side where little pegs mark a person's height.  There are two finials on the top, a planet and a rocketship.

Mirror

The mirror says "Live Life to the Fullest".  There are finials at the top of the mirror.  The kids loved to look at themselves in this piece when they were babies.

Treasurer Box

Completed 2001

This was a wooden box that Smith & Hawkins used as a gift package for a glass clochette with crokus bulbs.  The lid slides into the box and has a metal embossed plate that says SH.  So I played off of that and put "Special Hiding place" on the lid to go along with the SH.  I added the feet to box.  The theme of the box is that of pirate treasure.  I keep special items from the early baby days such as the little hats and shirts the hospital sent the babies home in.  I also keep a small collection of foreign currency in the box.
