This map will help give you an idea of the areas we visited on our trip to Quantana Roo, Mexico.  We arrived in Cancun and rented a car then drove about 2 hours south to the village of Tulum.  Our hotel was on the quiet peninsula that ends at Punta Allen.  The red line shows were we traveled by car and the yellow highlights are the towns & sites that we visited.

Las Cabanas Los Lirios

We stayed at the Cabanas Los Lirios on the Maya Riviera.  Click on the photo above to be directed to the hotel's website.  The hotel was recommended by our friend, Jim Dion.  We were really pleased with the hotel, the setting, the services, the surrounding restaurants and of course the BEAUTIFUL beach.

It Wasn't Sexy, but It Was a Trusty Little Vehicle

Our first day trip stop was to Coba.  Coba is a wonderful site about a 45 minute drive NW of Tulum.  The guide book said the road was full of pot holes, but we found it to be in really good shape and better than some rural roads in VA.  The speed bumps at the small villejos were murder, however.  We missed the turn to Coba at the traffic circle and wound up driving to the state line of Yucatan.  We turned around and fixed our mistake, which was pretty typical of all of our explorations on this trip.  In the lake near the Coba entrance, we spot a large allegator.
