is not a certain type - South American, Peruvian, or Inca. I paint what I am inspired to paint”, says Solis.

About the Series
The series of paintings illustrated here depict folkloric
vignettes of African influenced music and dance in the post-Colonial period in Latin America.
The story behind the African influence series is interesting.
One day a painter named Victor Barrios, an Ecuadorian painter residing in Brussels, Belgium, visited Solis's Brooklyn
studio. Barrios suggested that Solis translate his musical experience to the canvas and that is how the series Influence
of Africa in Latin America came about.
Originally consisting of 52 paintings, Only 11 paintings
remain, five of which are portrayed on this website. The rest have been sold to private collectors primarily in South America
and the United States.
