Ceramics Juror, Gwendolyn Yoppolo:  It has been an honor to jury this endeavor to form connections between those who make and celebrate handmade pots and those who grow and prepare food.  All of the entries displayed the yearning to make our kitchen routines into special rituals, wherein sharing food with those we love becomes a conscious, aesthetic experience...Those who grow food artfully complement our art perfectly, and joining forces with farmers in our local communities can be a powerful movement towards social change...Through this event, we raise awareness of the centrality of what we eat, how we eat, and how we engage in community life.  Making functional ceramics is the first step in bringing awareness and awe into our kitchens; being active in our local communities bridges our studio life with the lived experience of those for whom we create.  Knowing those who grow and prepare food for us helps make our artwork more meaningful by connecting us to the source of our physical nourishment.  I hope that you all continue to make objects that will nourish our bodies, minds, emotions, and spirits.  -- August 2007
