KIWANIS CLUB OF GREATER OCEAN PINES/OCEAN CITY

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

November 4, 2009

Meeting was called to order by President Dan Peletier at 9:20 am.  Present:  Roy Foreman, Mark Page, Cliff Andersen, Corky Widerman, Dave Lloyd, Ron Graybill, Phil Lassiter, Skip Dennig, Ralph Chinn, Tim Collins V, Gloria Bassich, Jerry Powell, Dick Feeser, and Don Brisbane.

The Secretary’s Minutes were accepted with the addition of stating an amount of $50. for the gift certificate for Barbara Schmid.

Cliff Andersen presented the Treasurer’s Report.  Nineteen members have not yet paid their dues for 2009/2010.  Jack Ferry transferred his membership but has not become active;  Jerry will check with Jack as to his plans.  Cliff will draw checks to Diakonia and the Children’s House/Believe in Tomorrow which will be presented to these groups as planned in our budget.  He will also dispense funds of $200.from the Santa Claus reserve to Worcester County G.O.L.D. (Phil, Corky).  The remaining $200 will be issued to Buckingham Elementary School for use by Nurse Baer.   Cliff noted that the German Dinner income is less than projected and that the Board must seriously consider future donations based on a realistic appraisal of how profitable our fundraising efforts can be next year.  This must be accomplished April 2010 during the 2010/2011 Budget Planning meeting.

On the subject of continuing to service the OPA community bulletin boards on Ocean Parkway, Ron Graybill offered to help the current chair, Joe Gallagher.  Approved.

Concerning past difficulties in providing Hot Dog service to weekly Concerts in the Park, it was decided to table the subject.  It will appear on a future agenda. Also, Dick Feeser offered the use of a hot dog roller grill.  Subject was tabled.

Old Business.  As  Al Kastner has asked to be relieved of his Vice Presidential responsibilities during his wife’s illness, Roy Foreman, Dick Feeser, and Barb Peletier have stepped up to cover his absence.  Dick and Roy will cover the activities of our sponsored school clubs and Barb will cover the “special dinners” commitment. Roy will cover the Showell Elementary Art Contest.  Charlie and Sid Warner will be this year’s Santa couple.  Dick suggested that we postpone appointing another person to complete Al’s term in office, and encouraged the Board to accelerate Roy’s training so that he could step into the Presidency 2010/2011.  Ralph’s opinion was that we should wait until elections in April to make further decisions as Al’s activities are covered for now.

Results of the German Dinner were lots of complements from the 152 people who were served but disappointment that the number of attendees was so low.  We are still expecting bills from the Yacht Club and for Bob Grant for his work setting up and breaking down.  Next agenda should include evaluating those invoices.

New Business.  Due to the confusion at the Community Center regarding the meeting place for the last Board Meeting, it was suggested that we continue to use the Library for that purpose.

Dick Feeser brought the subject of a new Key Club having been established at Bennett High School in Salisbury.  Apparently, the Rehobeth Beach Kiwanis Club (Division 11) is considering sponsoring that group.  Concern was noted that Bennett High School is in our Division 15 and the appropriateness of a Kiwanis Club crossing boundaries is questioned.  As our Board has not been officially notified of this by the regional trustee of Division 15, we decided not to follow through with any action.

Jim Spickall is handling our participation with Worcester County G.O.L.D. family gifts for Christmas.

Membership Committee – Roy Foreman has been named chair of this new committee.  The task is to target Berlin and Ocean City for new members.  Tim suggested contacting the parents of the children in our Kiwanis sponsored school clubs.

Dave Lloyd rescued a cabinet which holds Kiwanian items and would like some direction as to where to store or reinstall it – Library or Community Center?  He also expressed his concern that we are no longer using the podium box which has been used at our Kiwanis meetings for a very long time.  It was decided to continue using it.

The Kiwanis District Mid-Winter Conference will be held February 26-28, 2010, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, VA.  Pat Winkelmayer can provide registration information and forms to anyone who wishes to attend.

Meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Pat Winkelmayer
