Weekend parties
Had a good time at Kaela's birthday party (on Saturday) even though it was held at Dave and Buster's.  D&B is an arcade area mainly for teenagers and adults.  You redeem your tickets and you get prizes and such.  Plus it's a bar and a restaurant (food was eh).  Oh, let me add that they held tryouts for the Nanny 911 reality show (a series that follows a team of nannies armed with the dos and don'ts of child-rearing).  Phil was busy working, so my girlfriend Julie drove.  Our friends Michael and Elizabeth tagged along for the ride.  The mall is GI-NORMOUS in Nyack, NY.  Four stories high with an indoor ferris wheel, ice skating rink and all the big named stores you can think of all in one mall.  It wasn't overly crowded since the mall is that huge.  Methinks it should take a person at least few days to really visit each store and go ice skating.

Sunday, Sophia and I attended a Christmas kiddie party.  It sucked eggs.  The food was too oily (typical Chinese fare), they didn't have juice (c'mon, ya gotta have juice for the kids) and no fruits to nosh on.  Not only did we miss Santa, she didn't get a gift from him (really, the club) because we had to head home for her afternoon nap.  Santa owes her a big one.

Sam- I knew you were gonna make it to the next round- YIPPEE!

Robin- I was about to make an attempt on making English Trifle, but I have no clear glass to put it in.  Crapola.

Holiday Parties
Just when I was feeling blue about not having an office party to go to, party invitations have been popping up!  I'm so excited.  No, not to get wasted, but at least to go out, have a proper conversation and to have fun.   Here's a peek at my December calendar:
  • Kaela's 5th birthday party (12/4)
  • Phil's Asian club has a children's party (12/5)
  • Sam's friend and roommate, Jaesan, is leaving town. (12/10)
  • Robin is having a ornament holiday party.  (12/11)
  • Ikea has a holiday party for the kids- In Sweden, they celebrate the day of St. Lucia- girls dress in white.  Come to Ikea in white and you receive a $10 gift certificate.  (either 12/11 or 12/13)
  • Phil's office (Those who don't know me- I don't mention Phil's occupation online) is having a Children's Christmas party (12/15)
  • Friends Paul and Amy are having a house party (12/18)
  • Jennifer Edelston arranged an EEG holiday gathering (12/22)

I hope I don't burn out by the time Christmas comes!

On another note, last night whilst tucking Sophia in, she decided to sing and dance for me on the futon.  I wanted Sophia to go to bed because I was looking forward to eating English custard and lemon cake, but all she wanted to do was play.  She was singing, "Quack quack quack, cock-a-doodle-doodle-doo" (a Wiggle song) and flapping her arms.  I had to laugh at her.  How fucking cute is that?  Eventually, I had to whack her ass to go to bed.

Christmas is coming and I haven't started on my shopping.  Oy.

The nanny's husband called and tried to speak to me in English, but it was so broken I couldn't understand.  I told him to call Phil's cell so he can translate it back to me.  I think she made it back into America.  In some ways, I am very very excited to have her back.  I can go run my errands and to the gym at my leisure, maybe I can go to London for a few days, I will have REAL homecooked meals (last night I managed to use the wok for the first time- I'm no true chink) and lastly, I CAN GO BACK TO WORK.  Yet, I kinda like the fact it's just me and baby.  I just hope she doesn't ask for another raise.

What I Want For Christmas This Year

Dear Santa,

I have been a good girl this year.  I played nice nice with Atlantic people before we merged.  I sent a care package to an Army soldier in Iraq.  I held doors and helped the elderly cross the streets. I have also been a good mom.  I changed Sophia's diapers when soiled, fed her, bathed her, read her a bedtime story (Goodnight Moon- thanks Robin!) and tucked her in bed.  I cared for her when she was teething and when she was sick.  I wiped away her tears when she was in pain.  I taught her how to kiss, hug, raise the roof, turn around and jump (in process at the moment).  I have also done household chores including cooking 1-2 a week (that's a lot!).

If possible, please fulfill my requests below.  Thank you Santa!

PS- Banana bread with nuts and milk will be by the door on Christmas Eve.

In no particular order:

  1. Sticky Toffee Pudding- www.stickytoffeepudding.com  The way to my heart is to stuff me with sweets.
  2. A reminder to pick up tickets to see La Traviata next season (or travel to Cardiff to see it at the Wales Millenium Centre, see no. 13).  I wouldn't mind seeing Candide or Carmen in Spring 2005 at the NYC Opera house.  Any takers?
  3. Live Aid Concert (DVD)- Where were you on July 13, 1985?  I know where I was- pissed off that I had to go shopping at a NJ mall with my aunt, mother and sisters.  Never saw it in its entirety.
  4. Benetton scarf- I can't believe I lost my favorite purple scarf in the train station this past March.  I had it since I was a teenager!
  5. PG Tips- UK version of Lipton Tea.  Gotta get my caffeine fix in the morning.
  6. Nuala yoga pants- Since I don't have a job, jeans and yoga pants will be my winter pants attire.
  7. Having tea with friends at Lady Mendl's Tea Salon (on Irving Place).  Tea anyone?
  8. How come they don’t publish the good reads here first?  Below books found on www.amazon.co.uk
    • Schott's Food and Drink Miscellany
    • Shite’s Unoriginal Miscellany
    • Flanimals
    • The Timewaster Letters
    • Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell
  9. Subscription to Mental_Floss.
  10. Travel to Cardiff/London (sans Sophia or Phil) in February or March.
