Quote from Fia
I was out this evening at a business gathering from one of our clients. I come home and see two of Phil's
nieces, K and J babysitting Sophia. For a minute, I thought Phil was out (he normally goes to a meeting on Wednesday),
but he was actually putting O down in her crib.
In the meantime, Sophia says to cousin K about oragami- "I don't know how to do this, I'm not Chinese."
Hmm, I suppose I should break the news to her in a few days that she is indeed Chinese (well, at least three-quarters)?

Tutu
Today was Sophia's ballet recital. I wasn't worried that Sophia would mess up and have that "deer caught in
the headlight" moment. What made me feel uneasy was all these mothers (and some fathers) fussing and clamoring
over their daughers, adjusting their leotards over and over, fixing their hair, prepping their children to
smile (whatever happened to having fun???). The one thing that made me wanna puke- THEY WERE PUTTING MAKE UP ON.
Uhhh, this is just a pre-k ballet recital ladies! Some even had a huge bouquet of flowers (it wasn't for the teacher)!
I thought I was at a kids pageant!
Of course Sophia was checking out her classmate's face. She went over and gave me that look to say, "Hey Mom, I
want some of that eye shadow and lipstick too." I shut her down immediately and said to her, "You're not allowed
to wear any makeup until you're 13 years old." I know, I'm just too militant.
The recital went very well. Sophia followed directions and remembered her cues. I was very proud of her!
I was a tad bit worried that Olivia was going to run out on stage, but Phil did a great job of holding her back (everytime
the music came on, O did her monster mash dance- swaying back and forth side to side).
Unfortunately we don't own a video camera (who actually watches it again?), so I don't have a clip of it although I realized
afterwards I could have used my digicam (dur). Oh well, there's always the next semester!
Oh, one more thing, Sophia and I were talking about how we'll get the grandparents, her aunts (my sisters) to come to
her next recital. Of course, I forget to mention Uncle Rolly (whom she affectionately calls Tio) and she points it out
to remind me. Never fails.

BEA
Since I work in the book industry, our office had a booth at the Books Expo this past weekend. All of my colleagues were required to work at least a few hours, but one colleague of mine and I
worked the entire weekend. I came home with a shitload of free books, mostly children (they are much lighter than
adult books). Lots of book signing from the unknowns (yet up and coming) to LL Cool J to Kristin Gore (literally within 15 feet away from me). I am just mentally exhausted, my feet hurts and I have to go to work
tomorrow since I have three projects going on at once. Oh, and I still have piles and piles of "to do" lists at home.
It just never ends. Wah.
