On Sabbatical
Lately all I want to do is nothing when I'm home, after a long day in the office. Sometimes I end up not watching tv and
just browsing through magazines. Or reading non-sensical shit on other people's Facebook (although I am still very entertained
by Scrabulous). I just need to zone out. Could be the weather, could very well be my non-challenging job, could be a lot
of things. But not the girls as they keep me very busy and highly entertained.
Olivia these days, is quite the clown.
The minute I walk out the door to take Sophia to school and head to the office, O immediately runs into the bedroom to make
the nanny take out a frilly dress for her to don all day. I told the nanny it isn't worth arguing with her, so if O wants
it, let her have iet. But I do tell O that she cannot ask for the dress (which she doesn't do when I'm around). As if that
little monkey listens, psh.
O is such a girly girl, it freakin' cracks me up. She MUST have her hair tied up in pretty
little clips. She MUST wear pretty clothes (if she doesn't like it, she literally throws a FIT). She MUST wear her toy necklaces
(also the Mardi Gras ones- is this an indiciation of what's to come in 10-15 years from now?). She loves to twirl my hoop
earrings. She MUST put chapstick on when we leave the house. She LOVES pretty shoes that her sister wears. I seriously
don't know how she became this way because I certainly did not instill this in her. Sophia was nevver into all this hoopla,
up until O started to take interest in this glam scene. At least she hasn't forced me to buy Barbies...yet.
Sophia
is good. Recently I noticed in her class there are three Asian girls who are like, the movie, "Mean Girls." Three
of them were sitting on the mat, reading a book together when another girl (who is non-Asian) went over and tried to join
in. One of the three girls looked at her with such disdain- the four year old raised her eyebrows and rolled her eyes. I
was in total shock that a kid that age would do such a mean thing. Phil also confirmed with me this behavior also happens
when they go on school trips. I just hope they don't fuck with Sophia- she's super sensitive. I'll just have to intervene
like a psycho Mommy and give them a good scolding. Ask me if I give a shit who their parents are (I know two of the three
kids fathers- small world).
S didn't make it to the specialized music school. I didn't think she would have an advantage
since she doesn't take any music lessons. But it didn't hurt to try. She has a Talented and Gifted (TAG) test tomorrow.
I'm not too worried if she doesn't make the 97% percentile (that is just totally nuts). I just want to make sure she's in
a good school that will cater to her interests. I have a school in mind and it's not too far to schlep her to, but it means
we would need to get out the door before 8a (these days we take a bus to the school to avoid a ten minute walk and we roll
in at 8:50a). I'll worry about that later.
She hasn't gotten sick since the pneumonia bout back in October (knock
on wood). We've taken her off Singulair, but kept her on Flonase and Zyrtec. Especially with the mild winter we're having,
we have to be extra diligent to notice any signs of allergies coming from her. When that happens, Singulair needs to go back
in her sysstem. So sad that she needs to take all these medications to prevent a major meltdown. I hope she outgrows these
problems. I often wonder if this has anything to do with 9/11. At least she doesn't have asthma. Seems like kids (and adults)
who lived in the area at that time have upper respiratory problems.
I've enrolled in another round of Pilates classes.
It's costing me another $850, but I'm getting the hang of it. I just have to make time to two classes a week to push my body
(and mind). I've also signed up for the NY Road Runners. I've gotta push Phil and myself to get back into running. Now
if I can communicate with our nanny to stop dousing so much oil and hoisin sauce on our food, perhaps maybe we'll manage to
lose at least five pounds.
As for my job, I believe I will finally be promoted to a full-time status by mid-February.
I've filled out several forms, including a background check on my education and previous jobs (as if they can contact anyone
from Elektra!). I'm more interested in getting my benefits. Once that happens, I am off to take the girls on vacation!
I
was almost thisclose to persuading my boss to take me with him to the Superbowl game, but I gave up on it. LOL Last note,
the Giants better WHOOP the Pats!

Go Gints!!!!!!!
I knew the rookie kicker was gonna make that 40+ yard field goal kick. I even called it! Anyhows, the Giants
are off to the Superbowl to face Brady-I-have-a-bastard-child-but-I-date-a-model-so-I-don't-need-to-be-forgiven and Belichik-I-cheated-on-my-spouse-and-cheated-on-the-Jets-game (where
are the role models these days?).
Anyhows, I made a crazy bet on someone I don't know. An ex-colleague of mine now works at Time Out Chicago.
His colleague e-mailed me in search of something that had to do with my company's books department. So he started talking
a little bit of smack about the Giants/Packers game. So we made a bet- Chicago bratwurst with Wisconsin cheddar cheese
vs. Katz's Deli pastrami. Looks like I'll be making this during Superbowl Sunday. SUCKA!!!!!!!!!!!
And in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.- I have a dream that the Giants will win the Superbowl!!!!

Happy New Year!
I've been so horrible about updating my site these past few weeks. Okay more like past few months. My latest
excuse is because Facebook is occupying my time. It's sorta a love/hate relationship with the site, yet, I love finding
my old friends. It's really amazing and sorta fun. I didn't have a MySpace site, so luckily it wasn't too difficult
for me to make the transition from Friendster (not that I went back to update it).
Some updates:
- During the Christmas break, my sister Judy was kind enough to take Sophia in for two days (Phil and I had to work and
I didn't want to leave S+O together with the nanny and my grandfather- they constantly fight!). My sister said S
was so well trained, S didn't need to be told twice (that shit never happens in MY house!). Plus my bro in-law was away,
so having S over kept her well occupied.
- Phil and I didn't go anywhere for New Year's Eve. It was just us, Dick Clark and two Coronas with limes. Phil
couldn't even finish his drink (so lame).
- Last weekend, after Phil and I ate at Georgia's Eastside BBQ, I had gotten the stomach virus. At first I thought it was food poisoning, but I knew it wasn't once I saw Phil vomit
after I did (the kids were fine). Wasn't a pretty sight- had my parents watch S for a few hours while we handled O.
Thank goodness the nanny came in on Monday to help us out- we stayed home sick. We had to send Phil's niece to go on
a class trip with S.
- Was well enough by Wednesday to take S for an interview at a public school that specializes in music. They broke
it up into two sessions- first one in a group setting, second was individual exam. They asked her a series of questions
pertaining to the sound of music (is it a drum, yes or no?). I know, it's super crazy that children as young as five
are interviewed for schools! BTW, S has no musical background, except that I know she loves listening and singing to
music.
My status at work hasn't changed- I'm still considered as a freelancer. Annoyed as heck, but I think it will soon
change. I made several comments to my boss last week, sorta half jokingly saying that I quit. ha!
Tired, so I'm outs (had jury duty today and I'm exhausted from listening to the judge).
