The Several Dimensions of T. Alan Goldsborough,
by J. Owen Wise. (2007)
(Soft cover, 38 pages)
A brief study of the many aspects of Congressman Thomas Alan Goldsborough's life,
both public and private; also includes some insight into Goldsborough family genealogy as far back as Nicholas
Goldsborough's immigration from England in 1669.
The early years of Goldsborough's
life are examined, beginning with his birth in Greensboro in 1877, to his marriage to Miss Laura Collins Hall and
the births of their children; his graduation from Washington College in Chestertown, and from the University of Maryland
Law School in Baltimore and his return to Caroline County after passing the bar in 1901.
Goldsborough's years in Congress are detailed with discussions about the various elections in which he was a participant. One
of the more detailed references takes a look at Congressman Goldsborough's mental breakdown and the effect it had, not only
on the Congressman, but on his family and friends as well. There is an interesting discussion about the lunacy petition filed
by attorney Wesley E. Thawley and the legal processes of the time, which included the selection of 15 men, by the local sheriff,
to hear the evidence as to the soundness of Goldsborough's mind.
