Medicine at the Washington Hospital Center.

College of Physicians, American Heart Association, American Medical Association, Prince George Medical Society, Medical Chiurigical
Faculty of Maryland, American Society of Internal Medicine, and the American Thoracic Society. Dr. Bill is the current president
of the Laurel Medical Society. He was awarded the Governor’s Citation by the governor of Maryland in 1999, and he is
the recipient of the American Medical Association’s Physician Recognition Award for Continuing Medical Education 1994
through 2004.
Dr. Timothy McClain has lived in the Laurel-Beltsville area since
1976. His wife is a senior lawyer for Homeland Security. Both of his children were born in Laurel Regional Hospital. His mother
was a nurse. His father was a top scientist for NOAA, and helped develop much of the satellite imaging used for today’s
weather forecasts.
Dr. McClain spent 8 years with the FDA after graduating from
Duke University with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. He evaluated medical devices for safety and effectiveness before
they were allowed to be marketed in the United States. His focus was first on neurosurgical devices and later on respiratory
devices with specialization in experimental high frequency ventilators designed for high risk patients, including premature
infants. During his tenure there, he was exposed to some very impressive scientists and doctor-engineers such as Dr. Bird
of Bird Respirator fame, one of the innovators of modern critical care ventilators that we all know today. It was this exposure
that piqued his interest in medicine, and after completing his Masters in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins
University, he went to medical school.
Dr. McClain joined the practice in 1991. He is particularly
interested in preventive medicine, nutrition, and fitness and is the editor for this site. Since 2003 he has been an
advisor for the American College of Physicians, helping to govern the certification of internal medicine doctors in this
country. He recently became the medical advisor to the National Fitness Network.
