J.K. Rowling's enthralling tales of Harry
Potter and his friends captivate readers' imaginations and conjure elaborate images. The books' fans can
"see" the books down to the minutest details: distinctive clothing, lavish foods, unique villages.
For those readers who have immersed themselves in Rowling’s world and would like to bring the books’ to life there
are three opportunities to express their passions.
The “Magical Foods” Competition has two categories:
Children (younger than 18) and Adult (18 and older). Harry Potter aficionados
can let their imaginations loose and create any food from the stories OR any food they think should be in the stories. Such
as cockroach clusters, ice-cold pumpkin juice, house elf produced Hogwarts’ meals, Petunia’s famous cake of whipped
cream and sugared violets, Mrs. Weasley’s cooking – Chef’s choice! A brief (100 words or less) essay that
explains why the creation is the most magical may accompany the food. Entries are due by 4:00 p.m. on July 20th at Eichler’s
Appliances.
“Enchanting Art Works”
competition seeks illustrations of people, places or events from J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world. There are three age categories: Children 10 and
younger; Young Adults 11 to 17, and Adults 18 and up. The work should be no larger than 11” x 17”. Artists will need to include a title for their work, an explanation of what is depicted, and what it means
to the artist in 100 words or less. Entries must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 19th at either Art for the Soul or Wonderland Book Store, both on
Exchange Street.
Costume Contest - And, no “Harry Potter” party would
be complete without costumes! Dust off your best wizard’s cloak and wear
it the evening of July 20th. Be sure to sign up for the contest at the Sorting Hat Ritual, to take place in the
Great Hall of the Gorham Congregational Church. NDP Photographers will be on hand to take commemorative photographs (for a
small fee, to be donated to the fundraiser). A member of the Ministry of Magic
will be there to enter you in the costume contest! Prizes will be
awarded in several categories: Children, Adults, and Groups.
Entry forms and full rules for all these contests are available
at Eichler’s Appliances, 299 Main Street, Wonderland Book Store and Art for the Soul, both on Exchange Street, and the
