This is a 681 that was received in pretty rough condition.  First all the parts are removed, handrails and headlight in this case.  The under cab smoke decal is removed and the keystone decal is left on because it will be removed during beadblasting.  It is now ready to be stripped.

This shows the 681 after beadblasting and washing.  The next step willl be priming.  Lionel never primed their engines, but a primer coat holds the paint on a lot better and reduces the chance of "orange peeling" or "running."  There is a 685 behind the 681 that is going to get the same treatment.

This is the completed 681 with its handrails installed, headlight and keystone decal, and the new 681 renumbering.
