Memorials,  Funerals, and End of Life Ceremonies

In the midst of the tender time of grieving for a recent loss of a loved one, many decisions must be made.  One of the most important decisions is the creation of a well-planned farewell funeral service, memorial service, or an end of life ceremony that is a tribute to the one who has passed on.

Funeral Services

If you are now faced with the task of creating a farewell service for a deceased loved one, Dr. Gerogia Martin can assist you in planning the ceremony.  As a non-denominational interfaith ordained minister and funeral officiant, Dr. Martin is well trained to meet your needs during this time of loss and can help you arrange and create a meaningful, uplifting, and life-centered spiritual or secular ceremony that reflects the feelings, beliefs and individuality of your departed loved one.

Ceremonies can be non-denominational, interfaith or civil, simple or elaborate, traditional or non-traditional, and may include ash-scattering, stories, anecdotes, music, readings, poems and songs.  They may be held inside of a home, a church, a chapel, a funeral home, a hall, or a crematoria, or they may be held outside at the graveside, or a favorite location such as a garden, in the desert, or at the beach.  Each ceremony is filled with grace, dignity, depth, reverence, compassion, and with creativity, lightness and humor when needed.

Dr. Martin will meet with you and your family to craft a beautiful unique tribute to the life of your dearly departed.   Together, we will create a beautifully personalized ceremony that captures the very essence of your loved one’s personality and lifestyle, that celebrates your emotions toward them, and that allows you, your family, and friends to let go, say farewell, and begin the healing process.

Whatever your choice regarding ceremony type or location, Dr. Martin cares about what you are going through, and desires to be of the highest service to you by facilitating a tribute to your deceased loved one that is life affirming, deeply personal and healing.  In addition, she desires to assist the family to heal from their loss by offering comfort and strength to those in need.  After the service, you will receive a beautiful keepsake copy of the ceremony.

Memorial Services

A memorial service is a service without the body present and can vary in ceremony and procedures according to the community and religious affiliations.  You can hold a memorial service instead of a funeral, or in addition to it.  Because the body is not present at a memorial, disposition may take place either before or after the service.  For instance, you might conduct a funeral in a town where the deceased lived and died, and a memorial service at a later date in the town where the deceased was raised.

Pet Bereavement Ceremonies

Animals provide companionship, acceptance, emotional support and unconditional love to their owners; people love their pets and consider them members of their family.  Dr. Martin has the companion of five wonderful Yorkshire Terriers and understands the bonds and love that exist between a person and pet.  When a beloved pet dies, its owner can feel overwhelmed by sorrow, have a need to express grief and expect support and comfort from friends and family members.  Elizabeth Kubler Ross wrote in her book "On Death and Dying" that "Your loss stands alone in its meaning and uniqueness. Your loss is deep and deserves personal attention without comparison"

If you are experiencing grief from the loss of a deceased pet, let Dr. Martin assist you in planning a Pet Bereavement Ceremony.  She can meet with you and your family to create a meaningful, uplifting, tribute to your pet.

Ceremonies may be simple or elaborate, and filled with compassion, creativity, and humor when needed.  The may include ash-scattering, stories, anecdotes, music, readings, poems and songs, and may be held inside of a home, a hall, or crematoria; they may also be held outside at a graveside, or a favorite location such as a garden, a desert, or beach.
