The Vocabulary Of Symmetrical Haunt Dramas and Ghost Investigations
The following
words can describe “aspects” of a haunt drama, or an investigation, and are useful in the development of a standardized
textual narrative for reports, theory-building, and methodological approaches to research. These are not functional definitions
for types of criteria of phenomena. These can be found on a variety of internet sites, and in books relative to ghosts and
haunting phenomena. This vocabulary will continue to expand over time via updates, new modes of thinking the phenomena, and
further enhancements and developments in investigative procedures. Check back from time to time for new entries, and the retooling
of existing perceptual concepts and ideas. A definition of the word will be presented first; then, an example of the use of
the word in a sentence will be given. Please feel free to comment on any of these words, or my usage of them.
Abecedarians:
beginner, novice learner. We should be cautious with investigative reports
by abecedarians.
Bromidic:
without appeal because of overuse. The use of “orb” photos in field
reports
should not become bromidic.
Coetaneous:
co-existent/contemporary. Anomalous sensory manifestations are spatially-symmetrically
coetaneous with the present environment.
Conatus:
directed effort. Performances are conatus activities to recall a haunt drama.
Concatenate:
to make into a whole by joining a system of parts. Symmetrical ghost investigations
are concatenate, because they are a mix of archaeological/ethnographic/dramaturgical concepts and techniques.
Dilettantish:
amateurish; superficial interest. Field investigations should not be dilettantish.
Discriminative:
drawing distinctions. We have to be very discriminative between anomalous sensory manifestations and naturally-occurring stimuli,
and identify the areas of disparity.
Evanescent:
lasting only a short time; transitory. Haunting behavior is evanescent and exiguous ( extremely scanty; deficient in fullness,
extent).
Histrionical: of/related to drama and the theater. Investigative
performance is very histrionical.
Imperceptible:
subtle; slight; barely perceptible. Hauntings are not imperceptible. Most of the “original” haunt drama is imperceptible,
but the perception of elements of the drama is not, if viewed as a integrated sensory assemblage.
Inconsequential:
lacking importance. In performance-based investigation, we have to separate the inconsequential from the emically-relevant
and resonant.
Indiscriminate:
random; without pattern. Haunting dramas are not indiscriminate, though they
are confusing due to the anomalous sensory manifestations.
Iterative:
characterized by repetition. Residual hauntings are iterative. But are they frequentative? Or patterned?
Melioration:
important; development; progress. The goal of ghost research should be the melioration
of emic skills, etic techniques, and performance-engaged penetrations.
Ménage:
a group of related things. A haunt drama is a ménage of human sensory manifestations
that are based on a “lived” event or activity.
Methodic:
proceeding in a set/organized pattern; symmetrical. Performances are methodic
techniques based on sound emic values that are performed in established symmetrically-resonating physical spaces; The behavorial
characteristics of a haunting are methodic.
Otiose:
lacking value; use; ineffective. A goal-oriented investigation is never otiose:
absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
Perdurable:
existing in the same state for a long time. Haunting dramas are very perdurable,
and consist of either residual recordings or “memories” of interactive entities.
Phlegmatic:
without emotion; interest. Residuals are phlegmatic.
Polymorphous:
number of different kinds. A haunt drama is a polymorphous assemblage of sensory
manifestations.
Ubiquitous:
omnipresent; universal. Haunt dramas are potentially ubiquitous.
Vacuousness:
total lack of purpose; ideas; meaning. Investigative
reports should never contain hints of vacuousness; A field investigation should never be considered…; A haunting is
never…
Variegation:
many different elements; heterogeneity. Variegation in ghost research and investigative techniques is essential.
Verisimilitude:
authenticity; plausibility; credibleness. The search for verisimilitude in witnesses
is essential.
Versant:
having good knowledge of. A ghost researcher should be versant in many fields
of inquiry.
Vis-à-vis:
same function/characteristics of another. Performance-based activities are vis-à-vis
recontextualizations of the “original” haunt drama.
