Farm (Avalon Avant Garde) was purchased in 1992 at the age of 5 by Mimi Thorington as a third horse to join the chestnut Morgan pair of Maple and Leaf, completing the team of Maple Leaf Farm.  Farm took quickly to driving, but was a natural marathon star.

His physical shortcomings and high action movement were forgiven for his quickness and agility in the Hazards.  Enduring approximately 84 marathons throughout his career, Farm remains a pillar of health and strength at the age of 20.

Beginning in Poznan, Poland in 1995, Farm subsequently competed in 7 World Championship Marathons and Cones phases traveling to Germany twice, Hungary, France, Austria, and most recently returning to Warka, Poland in the summer of 2007.  Farm proved his continuing capability in the marathon, finishing one hazard with the 8th fastest time out of 55 competitors.  Unexpectedly, Farm stepped up to the plate completing a Dressage test in good standing at his final World Championship.

Farm is a rare horse with a Phar Lap like heart and an even bigger “Farmy Fan Club”.  The question remains, will the sport miss him or will he miss the sport more?

Mimi Thorington “Farm has surpassed my greatest expectations. He would never have gone into a category that would have suited him if he had not ended up being the greatest marathon horse.  He has earned a wonderful retirement.”

Lisa Singer

“I trust Farm.  He gives me confidence.  He is my beloved marathon man. I might not miss driving him but I will miss him in the team”

Paige DD Singer

“Stuck in a ugly duckling body, and yet priceless and irreplaceable”

Midge Leitch, VMD  “How does one sum up the 15+ year career of a horse who came out every day and did his job to the best of his ability?  He was this veterinarian’s dream – he never needed me.  If circumstances required it, I would fund his retirement.

Suzy Stafford “When I first started working for Lisa I was given the job of exercising Farm single. Wow, did I hate it. I think my arms grew an inch every time I drove him. Boy can he pull!!!!! And pull he has. He has pulled Lisa through 7 national championships and 7 World championships without hesitation and loving every minute of it. I often wondered how they fit such a big heart in such a small horse!

Mark Revenaugh,  DVM  If John Deere looked for a prototype of a super-tractor, they would look for the tractor equivalent of “Farm”.  I have been the team vet at five World Championships where “Farm” competed.  He is always dependable, he always does his job, and he delivers every time.  He has been a pleasure to work with through the years!”

Beth Berlin “Farmie is the rock…I’ve never met another horse with a work ethic and will as strong as his, and a heart as HUGE as this planet…all contained in a plain brown wrapper.

Jay Breggia  “Farm is the most competitive horse I know trying to please at all times.

Ron Palmer (Farrier) “ one tough horse with a lot of old time grit!”

Roger Summers “Agile, never gives up, super star, the man, everyone loves Farmie!!!”

Lori Conity “ The little train that can do it!!”

Shelly Temple “Most bendiest horse I have ever seen
