If you will enlarge the Range picture, you will see the famous Raton Buffalo. Look between Number 8 and 10 bank on the ram line. The Buffalo is steel 15'6"x10
The aim point (movable gong) is 16" The distance to the target is 1025 Meters or 1123 yards. Robert Frame and I hit the gong several times each. Our Rifles needed a  extension to raise the comb of the stock. It was very uncomfortable to shoot this way. So after a few hits it was "Been there, done that".
Below is a link to a video of Dave Gullo shooting the same target
about ten years ago. This is a re-post and the Narrator really
hypes the shot. For you novices this is not an extreme shot for
these rifles. Recently a Match was held where the target was 1 mile away. So please dis-count the Narration. Notice the time it takes from the shot fired till the bullet reaches the target. This is a true representation..

This is Kenny Wasserburger and the Group who set up the One Mile Shoot 2007. This is the target used with the straightened oil tank for a sighter backstop.
This link will take you to pictures of the 1 Mile shoot
start to finish not in any particular order. Our thanks
to Kenny Wasserburger for posting them:

The guy in the red shirt is Dick Trenk the U.S. Representative for Pedersoli. Dick was on hand for
demonstration of the Gibbs Rifle and to officiate the
side prize matches for Pedersoli.

This is the Competitor's Quarters at the Whittington Center. Robert Frame and I found them to be clean and comfortable with common Kitchen, Rest Room and
shower facilities. There is a large common area with Satellite TV, and the most
comfortable couch and chairs I ever fell asleep on! NRA prices were very reasonable far below the cost of the local Motels.

This is one of the Primitive Cabins at the Whittington Center.
If you have 3 or four Shooters in your group the price is very affordable.

Before our trip I would ask Robert Frame questions about the West. "He would say you have to see it. You can not
describe it." Well it was the truth!  Maybe this picture will
help. Notice on the right hand side, the blue streaks are a
rain storm. The sheer size of what you can see from one
point is indescribable.

I don't know about the Pot of Gold, but the end of the Rain Bow is in
Raton, New Mexico. Enlarge this picture and go to the right.

One thing it took a bit of getting used to is how scarce water is in the West. These are wild original Sunflowers that grow wild anywhere they can find water.

Raton2007078.JPG

A thought passed between us, If you were on a Posse, or a Vigilante in the Old West, and you had
a hanging to do, you better pack a Lunch it might be
30 to 50 miles to a large enough tree!

Raton200085.JPG

Wildlife abounds at the Center. Mule Deer and Prong Horn Antelopes are well represented. Hunting is by lottery drawing only. Bob and I were fortunate enough to see two Road Runners but they were to far away to photograph.
