Preliminary results for Peter Finger, "the Pioneer", are shown below. We await confirming results from another
Peter Finger descendant.
Peter Finger is Haplogroup R1b1c (M269), according to the Genographic Project, but Haplogroup R1b1b2 (M269+), according
to Family Tree DNA.
The difference lies in the definition each organization uses for the sub-haplogroups of R1b. Both recognize that
mutation M269 is the unique marker that defines Peter Finger's sub-haplogroup.
We now have the test results of another Peter Finger descendant to ensure that there has been no secret paternity,
nor secret adoptions, along the line from Peter to his participating descendants. There is one difference, of just one
count, in one marker, namely 385b. This marker is known to have a higher mutation rate than normal, so this difference
is not surprising. Generally speaking, the lower marker count is slightly more likely to be the same as the ancestor.
That's because markers have a slightly higher probability of increasing than decreasing. Otherwise, they would all tend
to zero and disappear over long periods of time!

Using his first result, Peter has a 'genetic distance' of 9 from Samuel, and 15 from Johannes. (Add up the differences
for each respective marker, and you come up with a total of 9 in the first case, 15 in the second.)
Peter Finger is more closely related to Samuel Finger than he is to Johannes Vinger, but probably not within the last
750 - 1000 years (the time of surname adoption in western Europe). The genetic distance between Peter and Samuel with
just 12 markers is a lot of difference, more than can be accumulated in the last thousand years. So, the short answer is that
Peter Finger is a third distinct line of Fingers, albeit a somewhat closer very distant cousin to Samuel than Johannes.
