The function of The J-Rod is two fold--First it allows the microphone to be mounted up to 5 inches back towards the rear of
the camera--this is a huge benefit when trying to shoot with a deadcat, blimp, windmuff, or a long shotgun on top of the camera
when using a wide lens.
Secondly, when mounting a shotgun mic onto the camera mic mount the lightest touch to the
camera transfers handling noise to the microphone. The J-Rod was designed to address the problems of mounting a rubber band
shock mount on the camera to isolate handling noise. On a camera like the Canon A1 and G1 or Sony EX1, V1 and Z1 it also allows
for the use of a shock mount while leaving the shoe mount on top of the camera available for a radio receiver or light .
It allows you to use any mic you can fit into a rubber band mount, and not just the manufacturers proprietary microphones.
The new J-Rod Twin Shoe has 2 shoe mounts, allowing a microphone and a radio reciver to be
mounted on the J-Rod. This will leave your camera sho open for a light, hard disc, or extra receiver.
See the link to the left for a list which cameras it will fit.
