These are 100% (actual size) scans of typical wood figures we use at ACME. These are presented in an effort to clarify what you may find difficult to see in the approximately one-third scale pictures of our parts.

Typical Curly Maple

We just bought another big bundle from this same log.

This piece of curly maple is one side of a back, or half of a bookmatch. Of course, veneer from this same bundle will also go onto the sides, bookmatched right and left.

Spruce Top Wood

We would think of this as a medium sort of figure.

We call this a medium spruce figure, because the grain lines are fairly distinct. A heavy figure will be much more assertive, and a fine, or mild, figure will be harder to appreciate on the full part image. This top is bookmatched, of course, and the joint is dead center in the scan. This face is drum-sanded, and then finish-sanded, both to 150 grit.
