NOTES FROM HOME

Below are some notes from some of our extended families as well as a note or two from others. These can be used as references or we can supply references for anyone considering a puppy from us. I check references on my puppy owners so I encourage others to check references on us too!

LUCY
Hi again Brenda,

The visit went great.  Dr. Davison was very thorough and very nice.  He noted what a sweet and beautiful dog she is and of course, I proud Mama beamed in agreement.  She got all her shots, and second de-wormer. (they didn't see any worms in the test) He said she's very healthy and her hips looked great from his perspective.  He noted a slight (he said VERY mild) looseness in the back leg kneecaps.  However, he said this is something that they grow out of as their bones strengthen and harden and he's not concerned about it.   He was impressed by your paperwork, and agreed with me that you are a conscientious Breeder (aka Grandma).  Thanks Brenda!!

I will just keep telling you that Lucy is truly part of our loving family.  She is one of our kids now and forever, and I can't say enough about her personality.  She is such a sweet dog, so loving and mellow.  With this warmer weather, she's been having a ball with running around outside.  The kids wrestle me for the keys when we get home from school so that they can be the first one's in the house to greet Lucy.

Take Care,

Lauren

Dear Brenda and Tim

Thank you so much for everything!!  With all you did, I don't know quite where to start.  Basically, it comes down to --thank you for putting your heart and soul into raising those precious pups.
I looked forward to the daily emails with updated pictures.  I really felt as though we were raising the puppies (minus the late nights, early mornings!) Thank you for opening your home to us and our friends for our weekly visits with Camden and crew.
Our search for a "perfect" breeder was tough—I will admit I saw/heard it all.  I never imagined all we would gain.  Camden loves to visit with mama Izzy and of course she wouldn't make it with out her visits with "Grandmom!!"
She is a true joy!  She loves to run outside, roll in the mud and GIVE KISSES!  We took her for an ocean city trip one weekend.  She wasn't so sure about the water; however, she loved the boardwalk.  She would walk up to just about everyone…sit in front of them and wait for them to pet her!  I guess she knows how cute she is!
Please feel free to share camden's photos/ our email address for futrue puppy parents!  I have nothing but great things to share!

UTAH AND HIS KITTY BUDDY
Utah is doing great!  He is settling in nicely and Wiggy has been so accepting of his new little brother!

They are having a wonderful time playing so far and Utah has only had 2 tiny accidents...He has successfully used the bathroom outside every other time--We're so proud of him!!!

FYI...as I am typing, a little someone....we won't mention any names, is running around us biting me!  haha!!!! Wink! Wink!  He's such a trip and having an absoulte blast so far--eating, drinking, growling and barking, laying on his back and kicking and his favorite, taking the toys and doing a flying bellyflop into his new bed in the living room!
What a ham!
Have a great weekend~Brooke & John

BAILEY!

Good morning Brenda,

Bailey is a big girl and weighed in at 25 pounds this past Monday at the vet for her shots and check up. Bailey is very energetic in the early morning and evening but during the day when she is with me at work in Richmond or at home she sleeps.
Our vet loves her and has even asked for your name and web information as she is interested in a pup from a future litter. Bailey gets very excited when she see's people and feels everyone wants to pet her.
Bailey does very well in her crate when we travel and when we go out anywhere. We will be opening our pool soon and I have already gotten a life jacket for her for that and when we go to the beach with our friends in July.
I got the email about sharing the pictures and that is fine, as we would be happy to have you use us as a reference.

Have a wonderful day,
Deborah

Hi Brenda,
Chelsea is doing great...She is just so sweet...and so smart!  We all just love her so...much!  She enjoyed two lacrosse games this weekend...what a beautiful weekend, and visiting with my brother and his wife, who came down from NYC.
She has bonded with our entire family.  Right now she is curled up by my feet...so cute!  She had a very busy day today...a few walks, and a trip to Davidsonville...to Homestead Gardens...it's a great nursery, where you can bring your dogs...she loved it, and everyone LOVED her!  She is actually sleeping great...in her crate, with no problems at all.  She has also mastered "Sit", and also is asked to sit before we give her food.  She is a great puppy, and we all love her very much.  The girls are really pulling their weight when it comes to taking care of Chelsea...they hug her, kiss her, play with her, take her out, and yes...clean up poop!!  Glad you enjoyed the pictures!

Dear Brenda

Nikki is adjusting well. She loves chasing us around and playing with her toys. Nikki has learned ‘Sit’ and ‘Down’ and we are now working on ‘Off’. Right now she is sleeping at my feet and growling. Our cats have been sniffing around at Nikki and coming out when she’s asleep. Tori and I have enjoyed everything about her: playing with her, walking her, and even cleaning up after her. We love that she is sleeping through the night and is getting along with our neighbors’ dogs. She loves to meet people when she is out on a walk. It seems like overnight her tail grew twice as long.  It was great watching her grow from an itty bitty hamster-like puppy into the cute, adorable and fun puppy we have now. Thanks for letting us visit so often. We look forward to seeing you at Puppy Kindergarten!

Tucker.jpg

From Tucker's Family...

Hi Brenda,

I just wanted to tell you how well our vet appointment went.  The vet
was so complimentary of Tucker and said he had never seen such a laid
back, calm puppy.  (Tucker had been up and playing since 3:30 but I
didn't mention that!)  He also said that usually when he checks over
new puppies he will find at least one thing that's not perfect but he
said that Tucker gets an A++ in all aspects - I was the beaming proud
mom, but you of course are the one to take the credit for breeding
such beautiful goldens and taking such good care of the puppies.

I had  a better night last night and got up once.  I think that Tucker
just needs to adjust to our routine because we are very early rise and
early to bed, so it will take a few days to shift his hours.  He loves
his new wading pool - I'll try to send some pictures tonight.

Hi Brenda - I wanted to let you know how Tucker is doing.  He is such a sweet boy and despite his few "chewy" moments, he is a very easy puppy.  He now sleeps either in our kitchen with a gate to keep him in the room at night, or he plants himself in our shower upstairs and sleeps there all night!  He absolutely hates the heat and will find tile or the vents on the floor to lie on.  The two of us had a great walk at the river today where he showed off his retrieving skills when a stick was thrown (if you throw a tennis ball he will swim out to it but not retrieve it - he just leaves it, turns and looks at you and waits for a stick to be tossed in the water!).  He is a serious glutton and lives for food!  I tried taking him for a walk yesterday morning before his breakfast and he would have none of it - just around the corner from our house he planted himself and wouldn't budge so I turned around, came home with him and he promptly went inside to the kitchen and sat facing the closet door where his food is kept - his eyes moving from the closet door to me and back to the door again!  The kids adore him and I wake them each morning with a Tucker in their rooms where he has to pick up the nearest and dirtiest sock on the floor and prance around with it.  He walks sometimes to the elementary school and always to the middle school bus stop each morning.  He still sleeps a lot during the day, but definitely needs more exercise than he used to in order to settle down at night.  Oh, I wanted to ask if any of the other puppies had curly or crimpy hair on their heads - Tucker's head and ears look like someone has given him a bad perm and the hair on his back is getting curly!  Very cute.Training is going fairly well - he seems more compliant with his lessons when off the leash rather than on it.  He tends to still want to bite and wrestle the leash, twist around and eventually just flop on his back in defiance when I train with the leash on.  Yesterday when I was out working with him, I had him sit at heel and told him to stay.  He flopped down on his side like a dead dog and looked up at me with an expression I would expect to get from my kids when they are teenagers!   I just burst out laughing and dismissed him from school.  (don't worry, I'm not a complete push-over. There have been instances when he has been repeatedly put back into the sit/stay position.) Anyway, I wanted to touch base with you and let you know how much Tucker is loved and a part of our family.  I hope all your furry kids (and non-furry) are doing well and enjoying the beginning of fall.Take care,
Debbie Hetherington

Hi Brenda, most of these were taken today.  His ears look quite kinky because he and I had a lovely walk down at the river this morning in the rain and he came back wet, muddy, smelly and ecstatic!   He is such an easy puppy.  We got rid of the crate a few weeks ago since it has not been used since Tucker was about 4 months.  As long as he has had his excercise, he can be left alone and trusted in the house when I leave him (with two exceptions - wastebaskets have to be up out of his reach, and he did shred my son's library book about two weeks ago)!  Of course, now that the weather is getting colder he is a welcome companion when I run errands.  He loves the car which once again has that wonderful wet dog odor to it!

Training continues to go well.  He is better for me off the leash than on for some reason.  When on the leash he still pulls a fair amount when we walk, but off the leash he heels beautifully.  I've trained him with a few whistles, hand signals and voice commands and he responds to sit, stay, come, heel, and leave it (we are working on down and paw, and "drop" is essentially prying whatever he has out of his mouth).  We have a LONG way to go when there are distractions such as other dogs, children etc., but when it's just the two of us he is awesome so I am encouraged that if I am consistent he will eventually behave in all circumstances.  I hope to certify him as a therapy dog some day.

After we lost our other golden of 13 years our house had an emptiness that could only be filled with another golden.  Tucker has filled the void and made our family complete again.   My daughter Rachel says "thanks a ton for getting Tucker.  He is the best thing you have ever bought".

Hope the pics came through ok.  Thanks for the update on Charlie.  We love hearing about Tucker's mom and dad.

Take Care,
Debbie
ps.  I shouldn't have bragged about how good Tucker is - while writing this email he got into a trashcan and I found stuff all over Rachel's floor!  Hope he didn't eat too much of whatever was in it.  I'll find out tomorrow when I scoop the yard!

Seaside's Jersey Girl aka "Jersey"
Jersey.jpg
Hello everyone,
Sorry we didn't get to meet our extended new family...we wish everyone best of luck with their new addition.  We've arrived home after more than a 3 hour return trip (Friday traffic) and we found out Jersey's voice can be very high pitched, especially in the car with the windows all up.  HAHA
But, if things could go this easy for the next 10 months or so...after she was showing off her voice, we stopped and she went to the bathroom and was back in her crate for quite some time nice and quiet and then she reminded us she was there (and another pit stop went well) and she slept till we arrived home.  Now we are in the introduction stage with our our dog...first he will be looking down at Jersey, soon at eye level and then up at her in a few months.  Our dog will need puppy therapy to figure out what happened to this little thing we brought home.
Again, best wishes.  Please send photos of Jersey's brothers and sisters growing up.  We will see how well she sleeps tonight....or us...
A special thanks to Brenda and her family for taking such good care of our babies.

I have to say, that Nikki and Sonny are two of the sweetest pups I have had in my classes.
The owners are TERRIFIC both families have done a superb job with them.   The two young girls who are part of  Nikki's new family are so wonderful.
Last night we had the agility equipment out and very low for the pups to play as graduation.........(I do that to build confidence) they were both flying over the dogwalk and the a.frame...........so confident and yet not reckless.
They are both going on to Mary Ann's class and then onto agility..........I think we will be seeing a lot of them in the future..........
Well done for all the socializing you do prior to sending them to their new families.......it shows!!!
Hugs
Diane

Clancy.jpg

From Clancy's family...
We had a nice trip home.  As expected, Clancy cried loudly for about 10 miles, maybe 12, and then he got the hiccups.  He sucked on my fingers a couple of times and settled down nicely for a good nap.  We stopped several times and he did his business nicely.  He has been introduced to his new home and finds lots of interesting smells.  He ate his 3/4 cup of dog food and had some water.  He did gulp it quickly as you had advised.   He went out into the leaves out back and did both kinds of business very nicely.  He is playing with his new toys and chewing on a small rawhide bone that must feel good on his teeth.

All went well.  You can rest assured that he is going to be one happy little puppy.

We stopped at our local Pet Smart to get a puppy gate for the back deck stairs and he was THE center of attention.

Thanks for loving our little boy.  I know you will always love him and so will we!  We are already besotted. I am being teased mercilessly by my husband and daughter for my infatuation.  I will love him enough to see that he has his obedience training and that he is the wonderful pet he was raised to be.

From a proud new Mama of a beautiful little Clancy :)

Oliver.jpg

Seaside's Oliver's Twist of Fate
Call name: "OLIVER"
Brenda,

Oliver's been great.  He whimpered a little  bit leaving your house, but by the time we were on Rt. 50 he had settled down.  We stopped at the park at Cambridge and he did his business, played,  and put his paws in the Choptank.  The rest of the way home he slept.
The first night he cried a little, but didn't cry at all the second night nor last night.  He has been letting us know once during the night that he has to relieve himself.  He waits quietly in his crate in the morning until we go out and have breakfast.
The kids are really enjoying him.  Our other dog Moose is tolerating him.  I think she enjoys his company on walks and has tried to romp with him on a few occasions.  Oliver has been great with her.  He isn't overly pushy or annoying.  He tries so hard to please her and keep up with her on walks.  Our cats are most offended by Oliver's presence, especially our five year old cat.  He watches Oliver from a distance and hides whenever Oliver gets close.
Generally Oliver is settling into our family nicely.  He has only wet inside the house twice and has started to cry or go to the door when he needs to do his business.  This morning the door was open and he went out back on his own and pooped.  I was so proud of him.  He's such a good dog.
He's been getting plenty of love and attention.  He will be meeting the extended family this weekend in Annapolis and getting time to play on the beach of the Chesapeake Bay.
I will send pictures soon.

Lilyandtank.jpg
Tank & Lily have had so much fun romping in our backyard! Keeping them from chomping on the mulch and eating the plants is a full-time job.  I brought their babykongs outside this morning and the toys  kept them interested for about 5 minutes!  They're much more interested in the mulch/grass/clover/leaves.  Any leaf that blows along the ground is a thrilling target for Tank.

They've had a lot of water... Lily gets right in the 8" bowl and swims with her front paws til the water is gone!!  I've got to get that girl to the beach!!  Do you  recommend a kiddie-pool in the backyard? It would, of course, always be under supervision only.

I was surprised that they didn't eat the food offered to them after their first potty-trip outside this morning.  Yesterday afternoon & last night they devoured their meals, but didn't eat this morning til after some hard playing!  I'll get to know their rhythms and they'll get to know ours.

Thank you again, Brenda, for loving these babies and making sure these babies were so well cared for.   Brenda, I've really felt for you over the past two months, taking care of  ten babies!!  It's hard to even imagine!!  I wonder if you even slept, with your multiple commitments & your involvement in activities with your kids, etc.  You are a remarkable woman.

Fondly,  Tricia
